Lamont Boiler

• La - mont boiler It is a modern high pressure water tube , forced

circulation externally fired boiler.
• The working pressure is about 170 bar and evaporating rate is about 45
tones per hour at about 500 degree C.
Working
• The feed water from hot well is pumped to the boiler drum through
economizer . In the economiser , the feed water is preheated by the
flue gases .
• The circulating pump circulating the drawn feed water through radiant
and convective evaporator via distributing heater .
• The water is evaporated into wet steam . The wet steam from these
tubes enters the boiler drum where steam is separated .
• The dry steam is passed through a convective superheater and the
steam is superheater by the flue gases .
• This superheated steam is supplied to the prime mover.
• Advantages
1. Compact .
2. Flexibility in design .
3. Drum size is small .

• Disadvantages
On the inner surface of the heating tubes,
formation and attachment of bubbles takes place .
because of which it reduces the heat transfer rate.
Benson Boiler
• The benson boiler is a high pressure , Forced circulation water tube
boiler . The main feature of this boiler is the absence of the steam
separating drum
• Specifications –
Generation capacity – 150 tons / hr
Working pressure – 220 bar
Obtained temp – 540 ° C
Efficiency of boiler- as high as 90 %
Working
• The water is pumped at above the critical pressure into boiler tube.
This water tube first passes through the economizer, which increase
the temperature of water.
• This hot water further passes from the radiant evaporator where
water is evaporate by radiant heat transfer.
• After that the water and steam passes through the
convective evaporate where water is completely convert into steam.
• The water pressure is critical pressure so the water convert into
steam directly without actual boiling.
•  The steam is further heat up and this super-heated high
pressure steam is taken out to rotate the turbine .
• Advantages
1 . As the generation of steam is carried out in the evaporating tubes at
pressure higher than cria pressure it doesn't require any evaporating drum .
2. Due to absence of the evaporating drum the total weight is 20 % less than
other boilers .
3. The superheater of the Benson boiler is the integral part of forced
circulation system therefore no special starting arrangement for superheater
is required .
4. Bubble formation is eliminated in Benson boiler which is critical problem in
Lamont boiler .
