What is Reverse
Osmosis and is it
safe to drink it ?
Reverse Osmosis {RO} is a water purification
process that uses a partially permeable
membrane to remove ions, unwanted molecules
and larger particles from drinking water.
RO removes lead from water and frees people
from many diseases such as high blood
pressure , nerve damage and low fertility.
Drinking {RO} water can also eliminate risks of
brain damage and anemic conditions , especially
in children.
Why and where is Reverse
Osmosis used?
Reverse Osmosis is used remove many
types of dissolved and suspended
chemical species as well as biological
ones principally bacteria from water.
It is used in industrial processes and
the production of portable water.
Advantages and Disadvantages
Advantages:
The process is simple and cheap.
The membrane can be replaced in 3-4 minutes and
hence can get uninterrupted water supply.
Disadvantages/Limitations:
The membrane cost is high.
Membrane should withstand pressure of 20-100 atm.
