QUADRATIC

INEQUALITIES
An inequality that contains a polynomial of
degree 2 and can be written in any of the
following forms:
2 2
𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏𝑥+𝑐 >0 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏𝑥+𝑐 ≥0

2 2
𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏𝑥+𝑐 <0 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏𝑥+𝑐 ≤0

Where a, b, and c are real numbers and a0

Examples.
•  2 2
2 𝑥 +5 𝑥+1>0 − 3 𝑟 +𝑟 −5 ≥ 0

2   2
𝑠 − 9<2 𝑠 𝑡 + 4 𝑡 ≤ 10

To solve these quadratic inequality find the

roots of its corresponding equality.
•  2
Example 1 𝑥 +7 𝑥+12> 0

The corresponding equality of

is . Then solve it.

The roots are -3 and -4.
Plot the points corresponding to -3 and
-4 on the number line.
The three interval are
1.
2.
  3.
Test a number from each interval against the inequality.

1. -------- -7

2. -------- -3.6
3. --------- 0
