Types Based on Installation Position

• Two basic types

• Forced Draft Fan
• FD Fan provides the furnace with COLD
air needed for proper combustion
• Produces positive pressure inside the
system
• Less maintenance, less power
requirement
• Induced Draft Fan
• ID Fan pulls HOT air from the furnace
through the Dust Collector to the Chimney
• Produces negative pressure inside the
system
• Greater power and corrosive resistance
requirements

• Fans normally have VVVF controlled motor or a Slip Ring

Motor to start
• Normally Flexible or Torsionally Rigid Couplings are being used
as Fan Couplings
• Slipring Motors with floating shaft, FLENDER has an RUPEX
Flexible Coupling with Limited Axial DisplaCoal Fired Energy
• Electrical Insulated option is also an available option
• For new project please consider CRITICAL SPEEDS. Please
engage Mussum Factory early. They can assist with
impressively detailed computations!
• Consider also proper balancing
• Flexible Couplings, pay attention to maximum allowable
speeds especially on larger sizes
• This requires the change of material from Nodular Cast Iron to
Steel (RWN to RWS)

• Fan Drives in Coal Fired Power Plant normally are driven by

large motors. Thus, thermal capacity is crucial
• Fan Drives must have these equipment included in the supply
• Fan Cooling with Cooling Coil OR Water to Oil Cooler with Flange
on Pump Acc K20/020
• Labyrinth Input and Output Seals
• MANN Breather Type 2 or 3
