QUICK REVIEW OF PARAMETERS RELATIVE TO LIMITS
VOLUME LIMIT
Function of Head Diameter, Head Displacement, Head
Angle and Speed. Affected by feed density, size and
crusher setting.
POWER LIMIT
Function of crusher mass and materials of construction.
Transmitted by drive assembly.
FORCE LIMIT
Function of crusher mass, head displacement, head angle
and speed. Defined by contact angle at point of maximum
compression. (ie minimum closed side setting)
Design Characteristics
Designed Crushing Force
Crushing Force determines the structural
integrity of a Cone Crusher
The first step in designing a crusher is to define
the magnitude of peak Crushing Force
Designing for that Crushing Force ensures.....
Longer operating life
Maximum performance by maintaining a constant
closed side setting (CSS)
Result - more net finished product (TPH) and
consistent and controllable gradation

Chancado Terciario, El Abra
SANTIAGO, Oct 29 (Reuters) - Chile's El Abra copper mine, which has not produced its capacity of
225,000 tonnes of copper for a full year, has been producing above capacity for the past several
months, said an official at one of its shareholders.
"It's over full capacity for the past several months, I could even say eight months," Francisco
Tomic, president of Cyprus Amax Chile, told Reuters. "We've been doing very, very well, over 100
percent."
System failures in its trial run and adjustments to its design had caused output goals not to be
reached, its operator, Sociedad Contractual Minera El Abra, said earlier this year.
The mine produced 199,420 tonnes of contained copper last year, 194,133 tonnes in 1997 and
50,929 tonnes in 1996, the year in which it was completed.
Phelps Dodge , based in Phoenix, Arizona, has acquired Cyprus Amax Minerals Corp. , which
owns 51 percent of El Abra. Chilean state-owned Codelco, the world's largest copper producer,
holds the remaining 49 percent.

Comparative Analysis
Weight, Force, Capacity
Force, Volume or Power can be the limiting factor. However, only adequate crushing force can result in
consisting crushing performance at high reduction ratios. Increasing crushing force requires increased
mass and/or complete upgrade to high strength materials.
