INTRODUCTION 01

INTRODUCTION
•In today’s mechanical life entertainment has gained importance as never before, and everyone
need break to relax in their busy lifestyle.
•A shopping mall, shopping complex, or simply mall is one or more buildings forming a
complex of shops representing merchandisers, with interconnecting walkways enabling
visitors to easily walk from unit to unit, along with a parking area - a modern, indoor version
of the traditional marketplace. And with addition of Cinema halls and food courts the whole
complex can be called as a Multiplex.
•A multiplex is a movie theatre complex with multiple screens, typically six, ten, or more
screens. They are usually housed in a specially designed building. Sometimes, an existing
venue undergoes a renovation where the existing auditoriums are split into smaller ones, or
more auditoriums are added in an extension or expansion of the building. The largest of these
complexes can sit thousands of people and are sometimes referred to as a megaplex.

MULTIPLEX SYNOPSIS:
AIM:
•To design a multiplex as one stop destination for the people coming with various recreation
requirements.
•To provide different kinds of activities like, theatres, restaurant, food courts and shopping
areas.
•To provide spaces which are designed to keep the people engaged and enthusiastic.
•To design a E-commerce based shopping mall.(which makes cusumers to get the online
products in the shopping mall for the same price in a same day).
OBJECTIVES:
•To design a Multiplex that provides the visitors with best entertainment experience satisfying
Functionally ,Aesthetically and Reflecting ways of urban life today.
SCOPE:
•The project focuses on the shopping area and multiplex movie theatre.
•The design aims at providing the best possible solution for the connectivity and inter relation
of spaces and the user experience towards it.
•providing quality and comfortable shopping environments.
•study of new construction materials.
•Food court, sufficient parking, multiplex, game zone etc.
•Natural lighting and ventilation.

place in one entity, having two basic perspectives gearing towards defining what a
shopping mall is or should be.
•It is a collection of independent retail stores, services, and a parking area conceived,
constructed, and maintained by a management firm as a unit, containing restaurants,
banks, theatres, professional offices, service stations, and other establishments and

case of passenger lift except that these are not meant to carry heavy concentrated loads.

PASSENGER LIFT :
A passenger lift has a completely enclosed lift car that travels vertically within a specially
prepared lift shaft. Passengers are transported between floors at reasonably quick speeds and
the control systems are often designed to give the most economical distribution of passengers
throughout the building.

NUMBER OF LIFTS AND CAPACITY:

Two basic considerations, namely, the quantity, of service required and the quality of service
desired, determine the type of lifts to be provided in a particular building. Quantity of service
gives the passenger handing capacity of the lifts during the peak periods and the quality of
the
service is measured in terms of waiting time of passengers at various floors. Both these basic
factors require proper study into the character of the building, extent and duration of peak
periods, frequency of service required, type and method of control, type of landing doors etc,
in busy cities patience, coefficient being low satisfaction cannot be obtained if lifts with
adequate capacities and speeds are not provided. ln view of many variables
The most imp of these are

b) Floor to floor distance
c) Population of each floor to be served and
d) Maximum peak demand: this demand may be unidirectional, as in up and down peak
periods, or a two-way traffic movement.

UNIFIED MOVING PATH:
•The unified moving path type is the simplest type of circulation system.
• In this type, all the spaces, including the ticket space inside and outside the theater, entrance

•ADVANTAGE-
Considering the low usage of subsidiary facilities in the exit area, this type aims at the most

•DISADVANTAGE-
The exit area can be overcrowded after the show time; thus, the dispersion of the audience
through proper space allocation is necessary.

CIRCULATION SYSTEM:

•The vertical or horizontal composition of a theater determines the relationship between •Moreover, planning the lobby area in each theater becomes more important, and the share of
the lobby and theater, as well as the composition of the circulation system. the common lobby area covering all levels relatively decreases.
•In particular, when the theater is designed to cover two levels of a building, the entrance
and exit paths are separated, contrary to that in a theater that occupies a single level.
• This design also shows different types of composition of theater and lobby area,
compared with the case in which theaters are located on a single floor with separate
entrance and exit paths.
VERTICAL SINGLE-STORIED COMPOSITION:
•In this type, multiple theaters composed of a single story vertically overlap, and the
audience approaches each theater using vertical paths, such as the staircase,
elevator, escalator, and others.
•Each theater is located in each floor where the entrance and exit path coincides or are
located on the same floor.
•The theaters are mainly composed of a single or parallel type.
•This type is frequently observed in cases in which an entire building is exclusively used
for the multiplex.

HORIZONTAL SINGLE-STORIED COMPOSITION:
•The horizontal single-storied composition is frequently observed in cases where
multiplex belongs to a part of a multi-purpose building.
•In this type, the practical spaces required for actual movie watching are located on one
floor.
•Moreover, the planning of lobby area, where a combination of different subsidiary
facilities is located, becomes relatively important.
•Audiences wait for the show time in a lobby area and then enter the theater following
the entrance path.

VERTICAL MULTI-STORIED COMPOSITION:

•The structure of this type is basically similar to that of the horizontal single-storied
composition.
•However, given that the cross section of the theater is planned over more than two
levels, the entrance and exit paths are located in different levels.
•This type is also characterized by a relatively large lobby area in the lower level of the
theater owing to the tapering cross section of the theater.
