CYLINDER
 A cylinder is a solid bounded by a
closed cylindrical surface and two
parallel planes.
Properties:
1. The bounding cylindrical surface
of a cylinder is called lateral surface,
and the two bounding planes are
called bases.
2. The bases of a cylinder are equal.

CYLINDER
Properties:
3. The altitude of a cylinder is
the perpendicular distance
between the bases.
4. The sections of a cylinder made by two
parallel planes, neither of which cuts a base
and both of which cut an element, are
congruent.

5. Every section of a cylinder parallel to the

base has an area equal to that of the base.

CYLINDER
 FORMULAS:
 The volume of a cylinder is equal either to the
product of a base and the altitude, or to the
product of a right section and an element.
 Volume = base x altitude
V = Bh
 Volume = right section x element
V = Ke

 The lateral area of a cylinder is equal to the

product of the perimeter of the right section and
an element.
 Lateral Area = Perimeter of right section x
element
S = pke MALAYAN COLLEGES LAGUNA

CYLINDER

 A right circular cylinder is a circular cylinder whose elements

are perpendicular to its base.
 For the Volume,

V = Bh
= πr2h = π(d2/4)h

A closed cylindrical tank 10 ft in height
and 4 ft in diameter contains water with
depth of 3ft and 5 in. What would be
the height of the water when the tank is
lying in a horizontal position?

Inscribed inside

An INSCRIBED solid is a solid (of

maximum volume) placed inside another
solid (of fixed volume) with their edges or
surfaces touching each other.

1.Find the volume of the largest cylinder with
a circular base that can be inscribed in a
cube which has a volume of 27m3.
2.A solid cylinder with a radius of 10 in. is
inscribed in a prism with equilateral
triangular bases. Find the volume of the
portion of the prism that is outside the
cylinder if their common height is 100 in.
