Cover Letter
As, we learned about letter
and the essential components
of letter, so now it is easy to
learn about Cover Letter that
what is cover letter and why
we write it ?
Cover Letter
Cover letter is the second
step or application of job
search.

Cover means case, front, or


the top sheet of something.
Cover Letter
 Cover letter is the top or
front sheet of CV or Resume.
 Cover letter is called cover

page of CV or Resume.
 Cover letter is also called job

application letter.
Cover Letter
Cover letter is a letter of
introduction attached to CV or
Resume.

Every CV or Resume should


be prefaced by a cover letter.

 Cover letter is written with CV
or Resume for two reasons:
1) Cover letter customizes the
job search.
2) Cover letter highlights the
applicant’s value.

CV or Resume is generic
whereas cover letter
highlights how the
applicant is truly the best
candidate for the advertised
job vacancy.

 The applicant can use the
same CV or Resume with
specific cover letter for the
specific job position.
 Cover letter should be written

for a specific job opportunity.

Applicant writes the cover
letter to focus on how he/she
can fulfill the requirements of
the job as it has been
advertised from the company
or institution.

1) Introduction:> Tell why you
are writing, and what you are
writing about.
 This will tell the recruiter that you

are applying for a job ( That is the


“Why” ), and which job you are
applying for ( That is the “What” ).

2) Body:> Tell what exactly makes
you the best candidate for the specific job.
 List the ways in which you exactly meet

the advertised job criteria.


3) Conclusion:> Tell what is next.
When would you like to set up an interview
to discuss your credentials.
