• Technical writing is also called
business writing.

• Technical writing is communication


written for and about business focusing
on products and services: How to
manufacture them, market them,
manage them, deliver them, and use
them.
What is Technical Writing?
Technical writing is written :
 In the work environment ( in the

office time, from 08:00AM to


04:00PM, not counting over time)

For supervisors, colleagues,


employees, vendors, and
customers.

Technical Writing
Technical writing , which must be understood easily
and quickly, includes:
Letters
Memos
E-mails
Cover letters
CVs and Resumes
Reports
Instructions or Manuals
Web Pages
Power Point Presentations
Brochures etc………..
Why is Technical Writing So
Important?
 Technical writing is the resume that helps get a
job and the web page that promotes a company.
The following criteria proves that why is technical
writing so important?
1) Technical writing is not literature ; it is neither
prose which recounts the fictional tales of
characters nor poetry which expresses deeply
felt and emotions.
Instead: Technical writing is an instructional
manual for repairing machinery.

2) Technical writing is neither an
expressive essay narrating an
occurrence nor an expository essay
analyzing a topic.
Instead: Technical writing is a
memo listing meeting agendas.

3) Technical writing is not journalism,
written to report the news.
Instead: Technical writing is a letter from
a vendor to a client.
4) Technical writing does not focus on
report that who won the basketball game.
Instead: Technical writing is a
recommendation report proposing a new
computer system.
Why should we learn
Technical writing?
 Students often do not believe they will have
to write at work; they assume that once their
education is completed, writing will be a
distant memory, but they are wrong.
 Once students are employed, will they have

to write on the job? The answer is


resounding YES!
 One reason for teaching technical writing is

so students will know the types of


documents they will write on the job.
Why should we learn
Technical writing?
 When our students are employed and
have to write on the job, will they write
essays?
 The answer is No. Our students, when

employed, will not write essays at work. They


will write essays while working on their college
degrees; they might even be asked to write an
essay on their job application when applying for
work. How ever, once the job begins, essays
end.

 What takes the place of the essay?

 The answer is technical writing –memos,


reports, e-mails, proposals, instructions,
even web pages etc….
 That is why technical writing is so important.
 Technical writing is the type of written

communication that our students will be


responsible for on the job.

Technical writing?
 Is technical writing a necessary component
of every employee’ professional skills?
 Career counselors say that employers want to
hire people who can communicate effectively,
both in writing and orally. They reiterate the
following criteria for their idea.
 An employee spends at least 20% time on writing
 Managers spend 50% time on writing.
 CEOs spend between 80% and 100% .

These numbers increase with responsibility

 How does Technical writing contrast
to Essays?

 Technical writing is different from other


types of written communication Because, it
is not a homework just like an essay instead
it is a responsibility of an employee to get
him/herself for reaching it professionally as
a job requirements.
