 “ Ancient” -- very old or antique


 Opposite of the modern or new
 Emphasized the importance and
accomplishments of human beings.
Distinct Characteristics of Ancient Art
 They used pictures instead of words to
tell a story or send a message.
 It may also be for religious or
ceremonial purposes.
 They used sharp flint points to cut
lines into the rock walls.
 They used pieces of red and yellow
ochre for chalk.
 Today we can still see their drawings on Cave of Lascaux, 15000-
the walls of caves in France and Spain. 10000 B.C. Stone Age
Classical Art ( 1750- 1820)
 Egyptian Art
 The purpose of Egyptian paintings is to make
the deceased afterlife place pleasant .
It emphasizes the importance of life after death
and the preservation of the knowledge of the
past.

stylize, symbolic, and shows
profile view of an animal or a
person. The main colors
used were red, black, blue ,
gold and green taken derived
from mineral pigments that
can withstand strong sunlight
without fading.
