Tess of the d'Urbervilles

Thomas Hardy
We’ ll talk about

My opinion Characters
Thomas Hardy Plot
Setting
Thomas Hardy

We can characterize Thomas Hardy as a pessimistic man who has a tragic

vision in his writings. He wants to penetrate (alt cuvant??) the secrets of human
nature. His characters are often heroes, characters with a very complex inner life,
the life that the writer wants to understand, to understand the turmoil of their
souls.
For example, we find the struggle between social classes, the conflict of the
whole society, the struggle with destiny that is already predicted to fail.
The tragic destiny cannot be changed.
Destiny is already written, even if our female character is still trying to
change it, the tragic end was written from the first pages, when it goes to
"regain” the family fortune.
He approaches ( un cuvant mai usor ??) a lot if tabu subjects, such as sexual
relations, relations outside marriage, status of woman. As a man he is interested
in the way in which the status of the woman functions. He is more interested in
feminine characters.
Everything happens in Wessex the kingdom of King Arthur, the fact that he chose
S Wesex as his favourite setting says something about the great attention he pays to tradition
and old hostory of England.

E The setting consists of more than the location, however, particularly in this novel.
Nature, as a part of the setting, is an essential element in understanding the novel.
In the work, nature can be seen from two perspectives, the one in which nature is a
T shelter, an escape, a refuge, and in the end we find it as loss, as destruction.

literature.
From my point of view, Tess is a pure woman, at least until Alec
decides to fool her. I make a comparison between her and “Ana lui Rebreanu”,
because both have a tragic destiny due to the family, due to Ion (here Alec), due
to his tragic destiny which is already written.
Both female characters had no choice, they had no way to change their
condition, their existence towards a happy ending.
Our character, Tess is the victim, I consider her father guilty, because he sent
her to Alec's family, the one who gave her a child and then left her.
Tess is essentially a simple and elementary young woman, the daughter
of a poor farmer. It is, as I said, a victim of social prejudice, who has no
aspirations for happiness and happy endings.
Alec is a cunning, evil, malicious Alec Stoke-d'Urberville
character. These are just a few words that can
describe Alec and I am surprised that he has no
opposition, he is proud of his wickedness,
cunning and his contemptuous attitude. He uses
Tess to get her pregnant, she is going to have an
illegitimate son, because he doesn't want to have sinister
a real relationship with her.

Angel is the opposite of Alec, the two are very different. Angel has feelings for Tess
and tries to get them to have a relationship, although Tess hides her past and fails to
have a happy ending.

Angel Clare
The protagonist of the novel. Tess is a beautiful,
loyal young woman who lives with her poor family in
Marlott. Tess has a strong sense of responsibility and is
committed to doing all she can for her family, although her
inexperience and lack of wise parents leave her extremely Hans Matheson
vulnerable. Her life is complicated when her father discovers
a connection to d'Urberville's noble line and, as a result, Tess
is sent to work at d'Urberville's mansion. Unfortunately, her
ideals can't stop her from slipping into misery after she
became pregnant by Alec d'Urberville. The terrible irony is
that Tess and her family are not connected at all to this
branch of d'Urbervilles: Alec's father, a merchant named
Simon Stokes, simply took the name after he retired.

Gemma Arterton
She meets another man, ehich falls in love with her. His name is Angel – he proposes
marriage and Tess . He knew nothing about her truth. When he finds out, he does not accept,
even if he himself had affairs, and he leaves. Double standard – men were allowed to cheat,
women not.
She meets her first man again, but Angel comes back to her. Tess kills durbervilles and
they run away from the authority, and they get to a place called Stonehenge. Tess sits on the
stone of sacrifice, so she becomes a sacrifice. They arrive there during night, gradually, when
the day comes, they arre caught by authorities. Tess is arrested by the police. Destiny has
defeated her. Angel leaves the place holding the hand of her sister.

Eddie Redmayne
In my opinion, Thomas Hardy presents a tragedy, a novel that does not have a happy
ending and leaves us surprised by the suffering of the main character.
He chooses to focus on the problem of femininity and creates a heroine, who is put to the
test, throughout the novel is subject to suffering and failure.
I really liked Tess's character, although I thought she was so miserable and so unhappy.
