ASSERTIONS

An assertion is a declaration
that's made emphatically,
especially as part of an
argument or as if it's to be
understood as a statement
of fact.
Assertions are
declarative sentences
that claim something
is true about
something else…
COUNTERCLAIMS
A claim that negates or
disagree with the thesis.

A claim made to rebut a


previous claim.

The opposite of a claim.


CLAIM: Students are
allowed to chew gum
focus better in school.

COUNTERCLAIM: Gum
will be a distraction if it is
chewed loudly
