WHAT IS A SENTENCE?

A sentence is a group of words that


has complete thought.
It has a subject and predicate. It
starts with a capital letter and ends
with a period (.).

Example: The children are playing


in the playground.
SUBJECT
It is the one being talked about
in the sentence.

Example: The children are


playing in the playground.
PREDICATE

It tells something about


the subject.

Example:
The children are playing
in the playground.
KINDS OF
SENTENCES
SIMPLE SENTENCE

A simple sentence
contains one subject
and one predicate.

Example: Loisa won the


game
COMPUND SENTENCE

A compound sentence has two simple


sentences joined by a conjunction. It
contains two subjects and two
predicates.

Example:

Loisa won the game so she received a


medal .
The boys went to the park.

We like pizza.

Alex played volleyball.

The boys went to the park and the girls went to the zoo.

We like pizza and they like spaghetti.

Alex played volleyball so Joan played scrabble.

words.
EXAMPLE OF DESCRIBING WORDS:
pretty
beautiful
noisy
tall
smart
quiet
A topic sentence is a
sentence that
contains the main
idea. Meanwhile,
supporting sentences
are statements that
elaborate the main
idea.
MY FAMILY
My name is Tom. I am ten years old. I
have a big family. My father is a baker. He
always bakes bread and cake. My mother
is a teacher. She teaches children like me. I
have a sister, a brother and a baby sister.
My sister is a law student. My brother is a
high school student. My baby sister loves
to drink milk and sleep all day. We are a
happy family and I love my family.

and think about your ending.
 End your stories with how you see life.
