ARITHMETIC
ARITHMETICSEQUENCE
SEQUENCE

A sequence where every term after the first term is

obtained by adding a constant called the common
difference (d).

A sequence where the difference between any two

consecutive terms is a constant.
HOW TO FIND THE COMMON
DIFFERENCE

-To find the common difference (d), you simply

subtract the term () by its preceding term ()

d= () - ()
where n is the term of the sequence
HOW TO FIND THE COMMON
DIFFERENCE
3, 6, 9, 12
1st term 2nd term 3rd term 4th term

d = 2nd term – 1st term

d=6–3
d=3
Therefore, the common difference of the sequence is 3.

𝑎4

d=– d = -6 + (+2)
d = -6 – (-2) d = -4

Therefore, the common difference of the sequence is -4.
