SEMINAR PRESENTATION

on
PLC (PROGRAMABLE
LOGIC CONTROLLER)

Presented by
Kritika Joshi
Roll No:-54
Introduction of PLC
A Programmable controller is a solid state user
programmable control system with functions to
control logic, sequencing, timing, arithmetic
data manipulation and counting capabilities. It
can be viewed as an industrial computer that has
a central processor unit, memory, input output
interface and a programming device..
PLC Architecture

The PLC software Architecture is

divided into 3 parts. They are as
follows:-
Programming Panel
Programming logic controller and
Input and Output devices
Block Diagram of PLC
Programmable Logic Controller
The programmable logic controller consists
of the following components:-
Central processing unit(CPU)
Memory
1)Program memory
2)work memory
Input circuit
Output circuit and
Power supply
Input and Output devices
Input Modules are of 2 types:-
Discrete input
Analog input
Output Modules are of 2 types:-
 Discrete output
Analog output
Advantages of PLC
Flexibility
Correcting errors
Space efficient
Low cost
Testing
Visual observation
Disadvantages of PLC
Because it is a new technology, so
that should require training.
Limited usage environments, high
temperatures and harsh vibrations can
disrupt electronic equipment on the
PLC.
Need extra security.
Applications of PLC
In Dairy automation and food processing.
For a highly modernized pulp paper factory.
In automation system for the printing industry.
In automation of container transfer crane.
In automation of High-speed elevators.
In plastic molding process.
In automation of machine tools and transfer
lines.
Conclusion
Automation has reduced human labour
and has increased the efficiency
manifolds.
It has lead to faster processing and
manufacture of products.
Automation is currently being used in
infrastructure process, industrial process
etc.
