DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM (DOT)
The Department of Tourism is the
executive department of the
Philippine government responsible
for the regulation of the Philippine
tourism industry as the promotion
of the Philippine as a tourist
destination.
HISTORY OF DOT
•1952 – Through Republic Act No. 710, the Philippine Tourist
and Travel Association (PTTA) was created to bring together
all organizations and entities that cater to travel and tourism.

•1956 – Through R.A 1478, the Board of Travel and Tourist


Industry was created under the Department of Commerce and
Industry (DCI) to serve as the policy making body for the
travel and tourism, while PTTA became its implementing arm.
HISTORY OF DOT
•1973 – The Presidential Decree No. 189 gave birth to
the DOT and the Philippine Tourism Authority as its
implementing arm for infrastructure development.

•1976 – The Philippine Convention Bureau ( PCB)


was created as DOTs marketing arm for conventions.

•1987 – Through the Executive Order No. 120,
the DOT was reorganized as the primary
government agency charged with the
responsibility to encourage , promote, and
develop tourism as a major socio- economic
activity in the country.
TOURISM INFRASTRUCTURE AND
ENTERPRISE ZONE AUTHORITY(TIEZA)
It was created on May 11, 1973 pursuant to
Presidential Decree No. 189 as amended by
Presidential Decree No. 564 is reorganized as the
TIEZA attached to the Department for purposes of
policy and program coordination by virtue
Implementing Rules and Regulations of R.A 9593.
It is mandated to:
• Design, regulate and supervise the Tourism Enterprise
Zone ( TEZ);
• Develop, manage, and supervise tourism infrastructure
projects in the country;
•Oversee and regulate the cultural, economic and
environmentally sustainable development of TEZs
toward the primary objective of encouraging
investments;
•Ensure strict compliance by the TEZ operator with
approved development plan.
•Continue the exercise functions previously exercised
by the PTA under Presidential Decree No. 564 not
otherwise inconsistent with the other provision of the
act.
TOURISM PROMOTIONS BOARD
(TPB)
Presidential Decree No. 867, promulgated in 1976,
created the Philippine Convention Bureau ( PCB), a
government agency was transformed into a non-profit
corporation by Presidential Decree No. 1448 in June
1978.
It is mandated to:
•Marketing the as a center for MICE, sports and wellness and
medical tourism.
•Develop and implement a plan to market the Philippines as a
premier tourism destination domestically and
internationally.
•Development of tourism products and services.
•Providing incentives to travel agencies, tour operators
capable of drawing a sizeable number of tourist and tourism
investments.

AN ACT DECLARING A NATIONAL POLICY
FOR TOURISM AS AN ENGINE OF
INVESTMENT, EMPLOYMENT, GROWTH AND
NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AND
STRENGTHENING THE DEPARTMENT OF
TOURISM AND ITS ATTACHED AGENCIES TO
EFFECTIVELY AND EFFICIENTLY IMPLEMENT
THAT POLICY, AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS.

in Clark Free Zone, Angeles, Pampanga
is a celebration of the Filipino’s history,
culture, and achievements in the past.

•It was the slogan that earned us fame and fortune. It


was non controversial and a good catchphrase for
selling the country abroad.

the Philippines. It replaced the WOW
Philippines campaign and received
the most controversial and negative
reception from the public. It was
eventually replaced with “ Its more
fun in the Philippines.”

It is the slogan that elicited anew debates and has


become a hot in social networking sites. There is a
claim that the new slogan is a “ copycat” of 1951
Swiss advertisement.

It is defined as the coldest season of the year, between autumn and
spring, astronomically from the December to March. The winter
resorts have a network of outdoor trails for winter outdoor activities

It is the practice of traveling to another country for
the purpose of giving birth in that country. The main
reason for birth tourism is to obtain citizenship for
the child in a country with birthright citizenship.

parents in the future.
◦Extreme tourism (also often referred to as
shock tourism, although both concepts do not
appear strictly similar)
It is a niche in the tourism industry involving
travel to dangerous places (mountains, jungles,
deserts, caves, canyons, etc.) or participation in
dangerous events.
◦Slum tourism, poverty tourism, or ghetto
tourism 
It is a type of city tourism that involves visiting
impoverished areas. Originally focused on the slums
and ghettos of London and Manhattan in the 19th
century, slum tourism is now prominent in South
Africa, India, Brazil, Kenya, Philippines, and the
United States
◦Gay tourism or LGBT tourism 
It is a form of niche tourism marketed to gay,
lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT)
people. People might be open about their sexual
orientation and gender identity at times, but less
so in areas known for violence
against LGBT people.
◦Nautical tourism 
It is combines sailing and boating with vacation
and holiday activities. It can be travelling from port
to port in a cruise ship, or joining boat-centered
events such as landing a small boat for lunch or
other day recreation at specially prepared day boat-
landings. It is a form of tourism that is generally
more popular in the summertime.
◦POP CULTURE TOURISM
It is the act of traveling to locations that
focuses on how value is created in popular
literature, film, music, or any other form of
media.
◦Virtual tourism 
A virtual tour is a simulation of an existing
location, usually composed of a sequence of videos
or still images. It may also use other multimedia
elements such as sound effects, music, narration, and
text. It is distinguished from the use of live
television to affect tele-tourism.
◦ War tourism 
It is recreational travel to active or
former war zones for purposes of sightseeing or
historical study. War tourist is also a pejorative term
to describe thrill seeking in dangerous and forbidden
places.
