Rough

Endoplasmic
Reticulum
sTRUCTURE
Rough ER is a series of
connected flattened sacs
which occurs in both
animal and plant cells and
located near the Golgi
apparatus.
sTRUCTURE
The Rough ER is
made up of membranes
which have ribosomes
attached to it. This gives
it the rough appearance.
functions
Its main function is to
produce proteins. In certain
leukocytes, the rough ER
produces antibodies and in
pancreartic cells, it produces
insulin.
importance
Rough ER is important
because it provide a
place so ribosomes can
produce proteins.
what happens if it stop working?

The substances would not

be transported to the Golgi
Apparatus, especially
proteins.
Abnormalities in Rough ER structure
and function are associated with certain
type of disease in humans. In particular,
the accumulation in the Rough ER of
misfolded proteins, which normally are
returned to cytosol, where they are
degraded, can result in ER stress,
leading to cell dysfunction and cell death.
