Top things Employers Want
This almost sounds like a joke, & it’s not!
These will be in RED text in this presentation.
1. Employee to show on the date & time they are
scheduled to work.
2. Employee to get along with other employees &
customers. They communicate well, participate,
collaborate, & are just good team players.
3. Trustworthy AKA won’t steal!
4. Follows directions. Employee does what the
employer asks. Does it when & the way
employer asked for it to be done.
5. Have a skill that is of value to the employer.
Your Resume
Resume Rules:
1.You can leave info out, but do not “add” AKA
don’t make stuff up & “lie”! At your age there are
usually not too many reasons to leave anything
out. However, here is a couple of Examples:
•Example #1 might be: A previous employer that
you only worked for 2-weeks because you did
something wrong & got yourself fired! Well, you
should probably leave that off your Resume!
Your Resume Continued
• Example #2 might be: that your involved in a
whole bunch of athletics &/or other activities.
“The employer might think that it could
potentially cause them a future problem with
scheduling times for you to work.” So, you
might want to leave some of those off?
2.Keep it shorter – At your age, this is typically
not a problem. Your Resume will probably
only be one page, which is fine. When your
older it could go on for many pages. Want to
keep it down to a maximum of two pages.

3. Do not have any errors in grammar,
punctuation, &/or tenses.
4. Organized, laid out very neatly, very easy to
read & follow, & do NOT use fancy fonts!
Your application will go in the trash!!! Use a
font such as Arial. The font your reading now.
5. Turn app & resume exactly the way the
employer asks! If it says all in one PDF file,
then you better turn everything in in one
single PDF file. If you can’t follow directions,
then the application will again go in the trash.
