• The proposed expansion of the
Iloilo International Airport takes a
step forward after the Civil Aviation
Authority of the Philippines
(CAAP) granted an Original
Proponent Status (OPS) to the
unsolicited proposal submitted by
the Villar Group of real estate
magnate Manuel B. Villar, Jr.
• - Former President Arroyo said she
was informed by CAAP that the
DILG had finally signed an
agreement. This could now be sent
to the NEDA for further assessment.

DOLE and DOJ already
signed the proposed
expansion.
• Need for the expansion as
the capacity of the airport has
increased from 1.2 to 2.4
million passengers a year.

• Located in Carles, Iloilo.
• Property giant Ayala Land
Inc. (ALI) and joint venture
partner Sicogon Island
Development Corp.
(SIDECO).
• The Sicogon Airport (IATA
Code: ICO) is the former
airstrip that has been
redeveloped and opened in
2018.

possible by Ayala Land,
Inc (ALI) and Sicogon
Development Corp.
(SIDECO) which is part
of the Php10B Sicogon
Island Tourism Estate
project.

Sicogon Airport (October
2018).
• Via Airswift charter flights
from Manila to Sicogon
Island and vice versa.
• Initially plans to have 3
flights per week and hoping
it will increase depending on

• RORO facilities were constructed at Lapuz
River Wharf which linked Cebu, Guimaras
(Jordan) and Puerto Princesa, Palawan plying
the western Strong Republic Nautical
Highway (SRNH).
• The Iloilo Port Complex located at Bo.
Obrero, Lapuz is considered as the leading
trade and commercial hub for Western
Visayas.
• The Iloilo Fishing Port Complex (IFPC) is the
center for fish trading and marine products
located at Tanza, Molo, Iloilo City.
• Several ports along the coastal areas in the
Province of Iloilo.

Iloilo Port
• An unsolicited proposal by the
International Container
Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI)
seeks to upgrade the existing
Iloilo Commercial Port
Complex into a world-class
port.
• It also intends to build a
terminal for cruise ship
passengers, to meet the
objectives of the National
Tourism Development Plan.

Iloilo and Dumangas Port
• ICTSI last year submitted a
Letter of Intent to develop
the Iloilo Port Complex and
the Port of Dumangas for an
estimated investment cost of
over P8 billion. The proposal
involves modernizing the
ports’ infrastructure and
superstructure and
eventually managing and
operating the two Iloilo
ports.

• It hopes to assist the port
authority in upgrading the
Philippine port network and
facilitating inter-island and
international cargo
movement.
• Including the Port of
Dumangas in its proposal to
prepare it for the spill over
of ships to be handled in the

• Last Jan. 26 and 27, the MV
Pacific Venus ferried almost
800 Japanese tourists who
arrived to take part in the
Dinagyang Festival.
• The government said they
are studying putting up a
terminal for cruise ships at
Fort San Pedro, City Proper.

Access by Land
• National roads traverse from the southern part
of the province passing all the coastal, upland
and lowland municipalities that stretches to
the central and northern part of the province.
• They connect vital economic infrastructure
such as the Iloilo Commercial Port Complex,
Iloilo Port in Muelle Loney and the Iloilo
Airport in Cabatuan.
• A coastal road connects the Iloilo Commercial
Port to Dumangas that also serve as an
alternate route to the main road.

Construction of the Leon-San Remegio Road
• One of the most strategic inter-provincial
links between Antique and Iloilo province.
Opening up the link is expected to introduce
dynamic exchanges between Iloilo and
Antique, further boosting the access to
International Airport located in Cabatuan.

Metro Iloilo Road Network
• C 1 – The Metropolitan Circumferential Road
from Arevalo district running across
Mandurriao and Jaro districts and linking up
to the existing coastal road in Bgy. Balabago.
• C 2 - From Leganes to Oton cutting across
Pavia and San Miguel and Sta. Barbara.
• C 3 - Iloilo-San Miguel-Sta. Barbara-New
Lucena to Dumangas Road
• C 4 - Tigbauan, Bancal-Cabatuan-New
Lucena to Dumangas Road

National Railway System
• In Panay Island, the proposed Trans Panay
Express has a 117 kilometer line starting from
Iloilo City to Roxas City and a possible
extension to Caticlan, Malay, Aklan.

The Strong Republic Nautical Highway
(SRNH)
• An intermodal transport system operated by
Roll-On-Roll-Off (RORO) facility linking
Mindanao via Roxas - Caticlan Route and
Negros Island via the Iloilo – Bacolod Route.
• The proposed Panay East – West Lateral Road
connecting Valderrama, Antique-Lambunao-
Calinog-Passi-Concepcion, Iloilo.
• Widening of major roads and bridges linking
major towns and other provinces.
