PORTUGUESE AND DUTCH THREATS

Dutch Threats
> They revolted againts Spain and proclaimed
independence in 1579. Spain refuses to
recognize Dutch independence.
> Treaty of Westphalia in 1648 - Led to the
recognition of the dutch independence.
> 1597 to 1647 - Battle between Spaniards and
Dutch.
Portuguese Threats

> The Portuguese blockade Cebu and


bombarded the spanish settlement.

> They failed to dislodge their rivals
> The incursions ceased only when
portugal become part of spanish empire.
Early Resistance of Luzon, Visayas and
Mindanao

> Lakandula was friendly to Legaspi.


*He helped Legaspi to rebuild Manila. He
also helped Martin de Gati, second
master
of camp.
>When Legaspi died, his successor
Governor Guido Lavares, perhaps through
ignorance or bad faith, he lifted the
exemption of Lakandula and his relatives
from the tributes and force labor.
CONSPIRACIES

>The plot spread throughout Central


Luzon and as far as cuyo island in Borneo.

weapon drive away to the Spaniards. After
which Augustin Legaspi would be
proclaimed king of Philippine. The plan
seems good, but it was aborted due to spies
who reported it to Spanish authorities.
Agustin Legaspi - Legaspi's nephew
Pedro Ladia - Native Borneo who came to
Bulacan to lead an armed uprising againts
the Spaniards.
>He proclaimed "King of Tagalogs" His

MANIAGO REVOLT 1660

attention from the religious group because
of its relative wealth.
BANCAO REVOLT 1621 to 1622

> It was a religious uprising againts


spanish colonial rule led by Bankaw or
Bancao, the datu of Limawasa Carigara,
Abuyog, Sogod. He warmly accepted
Miguel Lopez de Legaspi when he arrived
in the Philippines in 1565, and was
converted as a Christian.
SUMUROY REVOLT

> Agustin Sumuroy also known as Juan


Sumuroy, was a Filipino hero and waray
leader of Sumuroy rebellion, a rebellion of
native Filipinos againts colonial Spanish
forces that occured in eastern Visayas on
1649 to 1650.
