BIOMEDICAL

IMAGING
TECHNOLOGY BY

• It is the techinique and process used to create images of the
human body or parts of it for clinical purposes or studying
anatomy and physiology.
• A multitude of diagnostic medical imaging systems are used to
probe the human body. They comprise both
microscopic(cellular level) and macroscopic(organ and systems)
modalities.
• Biomedical image processing includes the analysis ,
enhancement and display of images captured via instruments
such as x - ray, CT scanners., etc
INTRODUCTION:
Biomedical imaging concentrates on the capture of
images for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
Biomedical imaging technology utilizes either x-rays(CT
scans),sound(ultrasound),magnetism(MRI),
radioactive pharmaceuticals(nuclear medicine:SPECT),
or light(endoscopy) to assess the current condition of an organ
or tissue and can monitor a patient over a time for
diagnostic and treatment evalution.
Existing systems:
• X-RAYS:
X-rays are a type of radiation called
electromagnetic waves. X-ray imaging creates
pictures of the inside of your body.the images show
the parts of your body
in different shades
of black
and white. This
is because different
tissues absorb different
amounts of radiation. Eg:CT scan
• MRI(MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING):
An MRI scanner is a large tube
that contains powerful
magnets. It can be used
to examine almost any part of
• ENDOSCOPE:
Endoscope is a
nonsurgical procedure used to examine a person’s
digestive tract. It is used to evaluate
stomach pain,ulcers,gastritis,digestive
tract bleeding ., etc

• SPECT:
A SPECT scan is a
type of nuclear imaging test,
which means it uses a radioactive
substances and a special camera
to create 3-D
pictures . It helps
us to monitor brain disorders,
The technology to capture the images of internal parts of
the human body is going on increasing. The new
technologies are:
• Dental cone beam computed tomography (CT) is a special type
of x-ray equipment used when regular dental or facial x-rays are
not sufficient. Your doctor may use this technology to produce
three dimensional (3-D) images of your teeth, soft tissues, nerve
.
pathways and bone in a single scan

Proposed and upcoming technologies:

• Free electron lasers
• Synchroton x-ray
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES :
APPLICTION:
Biomedical imaging plays a very major
role in the medical field to know the internal
structer and disorders in a body .
Conclusion:
•  Itis now extremely clear to us that the creation
and evolution of Medical Imaging has been
critical to modern medicine and medical research.
Without medical imaging, nothing would be known
about the human body or issues surrounding it
without evasive surgery. It is the basis of modern
medicine, diagnosis of certain things would be
near impossible without Medical Imaging
technologies like X-Ray, Computer Tomography
and MRI scans, unless dangerous surgery would
be conducted.  With Medical Imaging, diseases
can be easier to cure than ever before.  Medical
Imaging has and will save millions of lives,
possibly billions.
