CHAPTER SUMMARY

In 1862, Dunant published a book called “A Memory of Solferino” in which he suggested that a relief
society should be formed who would consist of trained volunteers and who would travel to the scene of
any war that might break out.
Dunant’s book was a great success and as a result, Red Cross came into being in 1864. The design of its
badge was obtained by reversing the colours of the flag of Switzerland. All countries have agreed that
