 The Philippines has recently
implemented the Senior High
program with Grade 11 enrolled
during School Year 2016-2017
(Sarmiento & Orale, 2016).

The Senior High School targets to

mold graduates who are holistically
developed, equipped with the 21st
century skills, and prepared for
college, employment and
entrepreneurship (Magno & Piosang,

STUDY
 The ABM strand would focus on
the basic concepts of financial
management, business
management, corporate operations,
and all the things that are
accounted for.

The ABM strand would lead to

courses on management and
accounting such as Bachelor of
Science in Accountancy.

 The Bachelor of Science in
Accountancy course teaches students
to integrate information technology
concepts into business systems, in
order to create a more systematic and
organized way of storing business
related data.

 According to CHED (2017), this is
the program that provides general
accounting education to students
wanting to pursue a professional
career in accountancy.

Further, pursuant to the Accountancy

Act of 2004, this is the program that
qualifies someone to take the CPA
Licensure Examinations.

 University of Saint La Salle – Bacolod
is known to have the best accountancy
program in Negros.

In a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)

licensure examination, USLS – Bacolod
had a 98% passing rate based on the
results of three board exams.

In this examination, the school ranked 1

out of 22 schools in Western Visayas
and ranked 2 out of 389 schools in the
Philippines (FindUniversity.ph).

 As a university that has a high
passing rate, it prioritizes the
QUALITY of the students rather
than the QUANTITY.

Only few numbers of students

graduate BSA from this school
because it is known to be very
strict and difficult.

 Many students end up shifting to
other courses because they
cannot withstand the demands of
accountancy.

Although it requires only basic

mathematical operations, what
makes it difficult is the use of
analytical and logical thinking.

interviewing the first batch of
senior high school graduates of
Accountancy Business and
Management who are now
currently in first year college,
studying Bachelor of Science in
Accountancy in USLS.

reasons of the first batch of
Accountancy Business and
Management graduates in
choosing Bachelor of Science in
Accountancy in University of
Saint La Salle.

about how undergoing ABM in Senior High
School affects the decisions of these
graduates in proceeding BSA in USLS.
