GENEX Probe Is a drive-test system targeted for network performance.
It is significant for troubleshooting, verification, optimization, and maintenance of
UMTS and GSM networks.

GENEX Assistant Is a post-processing system that incorporates

analysis of drive test data and RNC data. Now it can analyze drive test data
of UMTS and RNC data at one time.

GENEX U-Net Is a network planning system for GSM, UMTS and

CDMA2000. It supports network dimensioning, coverage prediction, system
simulation, propagation model calibration, radio data tuning and auto site
selection.

GENEX Nastar Is a network performance analysis platform,

supports 2G and 3G networks. By analyzing configuration and performance
data, such as CDR data, RFMT data and RSSI data, it can develop a good
solution to network problems.

There is a call drop event on this map
Please pay attention to the Ec/Io and RSCP ar
ound this call drop icon.
We will find that receive signals in red box are
very poor, especially before the call drop.
So we need to observe Ec/Io and RSCP on cha
rt in more detail.

Huawei confidential, 2005-04 49

www.huawei.com 49 49
49
On these charts, we will find tha
t Ec/Io and RSCP in Active Set a
nd Monitored Set became worse
and worse.
UE has send “Measurement Rep
ort” many times, but there was
no right cell to provide valid cov
erage.
Finally, Call-dropped.

Huawei confidential, 2005-04 50

www.huawei.com 50 50
50
Analysis
The distance from call drop point to SC212(nearest working cell in
Active Set) is 2078m, and the azimuth of SC212 is reverse to call drop
area. There is a much nearer cell-SC190, but it seems not to work.
Solutions
Check the site in red box,
and turn on it
Adjust project parameters
of cells nearby
Set up a new site

Huawei confidential, 2005-04 51

www.huawei.com 51 51
51
Pay attention to the call drop in red box, and compare Active
Set/Monitored Set information before call drop with these
after call drop.

Huawei confidential, 2005-04 52

www.huawei.com 52 52
52
Observe the Active Set/Monitored Set before call drop
Before call drop, Ec/Io of SCs in both Active Set and Monitored Se
t are very poor, UE should handover to a better cell.

Huawei confidential, 2005-04 53

www.huawei.com 53 53
53
Observe the Active Set/Monitored Set after call drop
After call drop, UE initializes Active Set, and find a good Cell-SC32
5. If UE handover to SC325, call drop should not happen.
So this call drop dues to Missing Neighbor.
Solution : Add SC325 to the Neighbor list of SC 442.

Huawei confidential, 2005-04 54

www.huawei.com 54 54
54
Pay attention to the call drop on the map, we will find that Ec/Io of
SC329 in Active Set is very poor (maybe the azimuth reason), and E
c/Io of SC328 in Monitored Set is much better. Usually, a SHO is ne
cessary.

Huawei confidential, 2005-04 55

www.huawei.com 55 55
55
Compare the best Ec/Io in Active Set with Monitored Set
Before call drop, Ec/Io of SC238(in Monitored Set) is much better th
an SC239(in Active Set), and this status keeps for long time, and ma
tch the thresholds of SHO.
So we should get more information with the help of message brows
er.

Huawei confidential, 2005-04 56

www.huawei.com 56 56
56
In message browser, we will find that UE has sent “Measurement
Report” many times and asked for handover (to SC328 and so on).
But there was no response replied from network side.
So the call drop happened.

Troubleshooting:
It is possible that there
are some mistakes of
parameters configuration
of network side. User
should contact with
vendor’s engineers.

Huawei confidential, 2005-04 57

www.huawei.com 57 57
57
Pay attention to this call
drop, we will find that
there are over 3 strong
pilots in both Active Set
and Monitored Set
before call drop.
It matches the threshold
of Pilot Pollution.
So we think this call drop
dues to Pilot Pollution.

Huawei confidential, 2005-04 58

www.huawei.com 58 58
58
Observation
There are too many sites around t
he call drop point, and because of
neighbor list, UE can also receive
farside cell SC165’s signal at this
point.
Solution

Adjust the azimuth of antennas

nearby

Adjust the antenna’s down tilt o

f farside sites

Huawei confidential, 2005-04 59

www.huawei.com 59 59
59
Each time enter or leave the tunnel, the signal become worse sharply.
Enter tunnel: At the entrance, the best Ec/Io of Active Set sharply drop t
o -20db, and the signal in tunnel is very strong, if UE can’t handover to t
he cells in tunnel in time, a call drop should happen.

Leave tunnel:
Similar with above

in out

Huawei confidential, 2005-04 60

www.huawei.com 60 60
60
Analysis with messages
UE has reported the Event 1a, but before the handover completed, the
call dropped.
So this call drop dues to SHO too late or not in time.
Call drop which happens when open and close door in elevator is
similar with this.
Solution
1. Adjust the SHO
parameters, make
SHO more quickly
and easily.
2. Change the SHO
area by adjusting
the RF parameters.
