FOLLOW THE MONEY
• When residents of Dunbar shop in the city, portion of the
money spent goes to the city.
• When residents outside Dunbar shop in the city, a portion
of the money they spend also goes to the city
• Both spend about the same amount of money in the city
• City residents benefit from all the money collected, non
residents do not.
• Financially non residents support the city as much as
residents, but do not get the benefits

DUNBAR CITY COUNCIL
• New City Council member(s) for West
Dunbar, Institute and Pinewood areas.
• Make recommendations directly to City
Council and Mayor.
• Gives voice to our residents
• Have input into budget, staffing, and
programs within the city.

LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES

• 24hr police protection for home, family and


community
• Routine patrols
• New police officers, cruisers and other equipment
• Quick response times for police emergencies
• Police backup from WVSU
• Additional patrols at Shawnee Park

FIRE SERVICES

• 24hr fire protection for home and family


• New full time firefighters at the Institute
station.
• Up grading the Institute Fire Station to
support 24 hour operations
• Keeping existing volunteer fire fighters

TRASH SERVICES

• Trash to be picked up weekly


• Brush, leaves and bulky items will be
removed.
• New employees added to the Public Works
Department.
• Elimination of current trash service.

• Cost of operating our current lights will be


turned over to the city.
• New lights will be paid for by the city
• Holiday decorations and bunting for street
lights will be provided by the city.

Animal control services will be provided by the


city.
A humane officer will be available to provide
services in our communities.

MOBILE HOMES
• Manufactured homes are permitted and welcome
in the city of Dunbar
• Existing manufactured and mobile homes will stay
in their current location
• In place prior to annexation “they can remain”.
• No problem

COMMUNITY IDENTITY

• Institute will still be called Institute


• West Dunbar will still be called West Dunbar
• Pinewood will still be called Pinewood
• For example: Kanawha City, South Hills, West
Side, East Side.

• New Police Officers - 4 recommended


• New Firefighters – 6 recommended
• New Trash Collectors- 3 recommended
• New Street maintenance workers- 2
recommended.

ABANDONED HOUSES,
CARS AND TRUCKS
• Old houses, cars and trucks can be a health and
safety hazard if not properly maintained
• Riddance of abandoned /dilapidated houses in the
community
• Riddance of abandoned/dilapidated cars and
trucks in the community
• This can be a lengthy process

ZONING PROTECTION

• Businesses are welcomed in our community


• Zoning provides a balance between the interests of
residents and businesses in a community.
• Zoning protects and enhances the property values
for residents and business owners alike.
• Zoning provides guidance for land use and
development.

STORM WATER DRAINAGE

• We currently do not have a storm water


system in our community
• Heavy rains produce ponding and basement
flooding in some areas
• The city will attempt to secure funds to
install a comprehensive storm water system

ANNEXATION WILL
• Make our communities safer and cleaner
• Enhance the quality of life throughout
• Provide for future generations
• Give voice to our residents
• Add value to our homes and property
• Make our communities a better place to
