WAVES
MADE BY: AUDREY D – 12S
INTRODUCTION TO WAVE
Wave = a disturbance that travels through a medium from one location to another.

TYPES OF WAVE
1. Longitudinal wave: the vibrations are parallel to the direction of the wave.
2. Transverse wave: the vibrations are perpendicular to the wave.
APPLICATION OF SOUND WAVE
• Sound-level meter is used to measure the intensity of noise, music, and other sounds. It consists of a
microphone for picking up sound and converting it into an electrical signal.

• The indicating device is usually a meter calibrated to read the sound level in decibels.

HOW DOES THE SOUND LEVEL METER WORK?

• The microphone of the sound level meter contains a flexible membrane that moves slightly
when the sound wave hit it.

• The stick keeps the microphone away from the body of the instrument, cutting of reflections
and giving more accurate measurement. Inside the square box, electronic circuits measure the
sound detected by the microphone and amplify it and filter it in various ways before showing a
readout on a digital LCD display.
