Important Facts:
• Sri. Lanka is located in the south of India.

• It have a mix of diverse ethnicities: Sinhalese, Sri Lankan Moors,


Indian Tamils and Sri Lankan.

• Approximately 69% oh the inhabitants are Buddhist, 7% Muslim,


7% Hindu, 6 % Christian.

• The lenguaje that people spoken by the mojority in this city is


Sinhala (“lion´s blood”).

• The name “Sri Lanka” is also interpretable: sri means (blessed) and
Lanka means (island)

• The second most widely spoken languaje is Tamil, while English id


often used for business

• Sri Lanka celebrate the New Year in April, and their calendar
follows the movement of the moon.

The greeting

• When meeting and greeting people, older Sri Lankans clasp their hands with the
palms together and hold them at chin level, as if in prayer. This is called namaste.
Younger people also shake hands when greeting each other.
Traditional Clothig

- Muslim women usually wear black.


• Women - Other women who are close to marrying age or are
alredy married often wear a kadyan sari.

- Men traditional wear a sarong, which is a piece of cloth


• Men tied around the waist like a towel (this can be worn
long, or folded in half to be shorter in hot weather.
Traditions

• A traditional Sri Lankan pastime is stilt fishing.

• One of the oldest traditional types of dance is the Kandyan Dance, which has
been performed for over 2,500 years.

• Kandyan Dance is traditionally danced only by men wearing elaborate


headdresses and costumes, and is accompanied only by percussion, with
instruments including finger bells, drums and cymbals.

• Some Kandyan Dances are named after animals and based on their
movements, such as the slow and stolid sway of an elephant, the way a horse
trots or gallops, or the gliding and swooping of a hawk.
