Objective:
1. Find the mean, median and mode of
ungrouped data.

2. Describe the mean, median and mode of

ungrouped data.
Measures of
Central Tendency
of Ungrouped Data
1. Ascending order- the order that starts from
smallest to bigger number.
2. Descending order- the order that starts from
bigger to smallest.
3. Mean- it is the sum of measure x divided by
the number N of measures in a variable.
4. Median- is the middle entry or term in a set
of data arranged in numerical order ( either
ascending or descending order. If the number
of term is even, the median is the mean of the
two middle score.
5. Mode- the measure or value which occurs
most frequently in a set of data.
Activity:
A group of students obtained the following
scores in math quiz:
8, 7, 9, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3

Arrange these scores in ascending order.

How will you solve for the mean? Median?

And mode?
Mean
• The mean is commonly referred to as the
average of all values.
• It represented by M or x̅
• To compute for the mean, add all the scores
and divide the sum by the number of scores. It
is the easiest “average” to compute.
• The mean is the score obtained if all the
scores are “evened out”.
Temperature of Different Cities
City Highest Temperature in Lowest Temperature in
degrees Fahrenheit degrees Fahrenheit
Zamboanga City 22 16
Dipolog City 24 14
Pagadian City 22 18
Iligan City 20 16
Cagayan de Oro City 25 19
Davao City 23 15

Calculate the mean of the highest and the

lowest temperature in the table and
Interpret the data.
Median
• The median , represented by Md, is the value of the
middle term when data arranged in either ascending or
descending order.

Median of Ungrouped Data

Remember:
1. Arrange the data in the array of ascending or descending order.
2. Take note of the items in the middle position.
If there is an odd number of items, the middle item is the median.
If there is an even number of items, the median is taken as the
arithmetic mean of the two values falling in the middle
Compute the Median:

1. In a survey of small businesses in Tungawan 10

bakeries report the following numbers of
employees:15, 14, 12, 19, 13, 14, 15, 18, 13, 19.

2. The number of books loaned from the PNHS

library during each day of the week from Monday
to Saturday were 36, 31, 24, 25, 50 and 47.
What is the median?
Mode
• The most frequent score/s in the given set of data
is called the mode.
It is classified as unimodal, bimodal and multimodal.
ACTIVITY:
Rubrics:
The group will be rated according to
the following criteria:
Content – 50 points
Delivery – 30 points
Timeliness – 10 points
Teamwork – 10 points
100 points
Evaluation:
Solve:
Sonya’s kitchen received an invitation to a food exposition for one person. The
service crew of 7 members is very eager to go. To be fair to all, Sonya decided to
choose a person whose age is also the mean age of her seven members.
She made a list such as below:
Service Crew Age
Manager 47
Cook A 21
Cook B 20
Cashier 19
Waiter A 18
Waiter B 18
Waitress 18
Questions:
What is the mean, median and mode age of the service crew?
Is there someone in this group who has this age?
How many persons are older than the mean age? How many are younger?
Assignment:

Research on Measures of Variability.
