The Purpose of This Report:
• To provide knowledge about automobile
maintenance
• To show examples of what needs to be maintained
• To introduce necessary tools for the maintenance
Why is Maintenance Important?
• To make your automobile safe and reliable
• To keep the automobile more economical and
cheaper to operate
• To extend the life of the automobile
• To increase resale value
• To maintain the warranty period requirements
Types of Maintenance
There are three types of maintenance on your
automobile:
• Automobile check
• Automobile adjustment
• Replacement of fluids and parts
Automobile Check
Multi-point inspection (MPI) consists of main points of the
automobile that needs to be checked regularly. Those points are:
1. Brakes-Tires-Alignment:
• Brake pads
• Brake fluid
• Parking brake
• Tire tread depth
• Tire pressure
• Wheel alignment

2. Interior/exterior:
• Lights
• Wiper blades
• Floor mats
• Horn
• Cabin air filter
• Clutch operation

3. Under vehicle:
• Shock absorbers/Suspension
• Power steering/Hoses/Ball joints/Dust covers
• Mufflers/Exhaust pipes/Mountings
• Engine oil leaks/Fluid leaks/Transmission fluid level

• Transmission/Differential/Transfer case
• Fuel lines and connections
• Inspection of bolts and nuts on chassis

4. Under hood:
• Fluid levels: Oil, coolant, battery, power steering,
brake fluid, washer fluid
• Engine air filter
• Engine coolant system check
• Air condition hoses
• Radiator condition
• Battery condition and service

After operating an automobile for some time, it needs
adjustment.
1. Wheel alignment:
• Toe angle
• Camber angle
• Caster angle
• Thrust

 Replacement of Fluids and Parts
Many automobile fluids and parts need to be changed
regularly for them to function well.
Fluids and change intervals:
• Engine oil and oil filter: every 8,000-12,000 km or every year
• Transmission fluid: every 3 years or after 70,000-100,000 km
• Coolant: every 3 years
• Brake fluid: every 2 years
• Power steering fluid: every 3 years or after 50,000 km
 Replacement of Fluids and Parts
Parts and change intervals:
• Cabin air filter: once per year
• Engine air filter: once per year
• Fuel filter: every 150,000 km
• Spark plugs: every 120,000 – 150,000 km
• Timing belt/chain: belt every 100,000 km, chain – 200,000
km.
• Drive belt: every 120,000 km
Compulsory roadworthiness test
Most countries have mandatory vehicle inspection
every year or two. This inspection is necessary to make
sure that all automobiles are safe to operate on a public
road and that they meet ecological requirements. Many
people use this inspection as an opportunity to have
their car checked, adjusted and change some parts if
needed.
Main Tools For Simple Maintenance
Most of the automobile maintenance works can be done at
home with simple tools. The most important tool is a socket
set. A lot of socket sets also include pliers, screwdrivers and
many more tools. Every car owner should have some sort of
socket set because with good socket set almost any work can
be done to your automobile. Of course, if you want to have a
car service history or just have a new car and you want its
warranty to be valid, the work should be done by an
authorized service center.

to lift car so tyres or other automobile parts can be

can burn out in every moment when driving.

It is recommended to have a fuse set, as the electrical
system may short circuit and the fuse may blow. Of
course, you should contact a specialist immediately or
look for a fault yourself.

If you regularly check your automobile, change fluids
and parts at appointed intervals, you will have a safe,
reliable car. So not only you will make your automobile
to last longer you will also save a lot of money in the
long run.
