 Introduction.
 Description Process.
 Factors Affecting Mercury Removal.
 Process flow diagram.
 Conclusion.

2
INTRODUCTION:

Mercury can be present in natural gas wells and natural gas

production streams, depending upon local geology.

Measuring and removing mercury content is important for

natural gas producers. Mercury can damage gas processing
equipment, various metal parts, and gas pipelines.

There are different ways to remove mercury from natural gas

in the presentation we explain Adsorption by activated
carbon.

3
:DESCRIPTION PROCESS

Conventional mercury removals:

Adsorption on activated carbon: The most
commonly used process for removing
mercury is by its reaction with the sulfur
component to form mercury sulfide.
Hg + S = HgS Sulfur is deposited first on a
support, the reaction is fast and high
levels of mercury can be absorbed on the
bed.
4
FACTORS AFFECTING MERCURY
REMOVAL:

These factors are summarized as follows:

composition of gas
presence of higher hydrocarbons
operating temperature/pressure
activated carbon characteristics
concentration of mercury vapor
presence of water and other impurities
gas flow rate
contact time

CONCLUSION:

Mercury levels should be known. In order to properly design a

mercury removal system, accurate measurement of mercury is
critical to the size of the system correctly and to avoid having
a system that is too large and not economical or too small to
meet the required mercury outlet specifications.
