    Minerals are naturally occurring inorganic substances formed through geological processes within the Earth. There are two main types of minerals - metallic minerals like iron and non-metallic minerals like sand. Minerals are extracted through mining processes like underground mining using shafts or adits or open-cast mining near the Earth's surface. Minerals have many important economic uses - they are critical resources for industries like construction and agriculture, can improve a country's balance of payments through mineral exports, generate jobs, and support power generation and development of remote areas, ultimately contributing to increased GDP.
