Modern Dances

Street Dance
It is a dance form, reacting against traditional, high-art
dance styles. This dance is elective in nature and
encompasses a range of dance styles characterized by
descriptions such as hip-hop, funk, and breakdancing.
Hip-Hop dances are street dance styles performed with hi-
hop music that evolved from the hip-hop culture.
Movements in Street Dance & Hip-Hop
1. Breaking is a style that is for the young talented and extremely fit.

c. Power moves
d. Finishing move
e. Suicide
Locking

Locking is a type of street dance that involves acrobatic


movements and could be seen as comical. Created by
Don Campbell in 1969 in Los Angeles, California.
Krumping

Krumping is a style of dance that requires a lot of


energy and entirely freestyle. It was originated in the
African-American community of South Central Los
Angeles, California.
Popping

Poppingis a technique usually done standing up and


quickly contracting and relaxing your muscles that will
cause your body to jerk. The moves are concentrated on
specific parts of the body-chest, leg, or arm.
Waving
Waving is a dance style that is basically a
combined set of moves that make it look as
though a wave is travelling through the body of
the performer.
Robotics dance style
Robotics dance style indicates dancing like a robot. Some
confuse this style with that of popping, but these are very
different. The moves themselves are called dime stops that
mean moving a part of your body and bringing it to an abrupt
stop like that of a robot.
Turfing/Turf dance is an improvisational, free-flowing
form of dance that is based on the idea of pure cause
and effect but focuses on storytelling, the creation of
optical illusions, and the display of distinctive personal
style.
