WHAT IS AN FRP PIPE?
• FRP-FIBRE REINFORCED PLASTIC

• FRP stands for fiber-reinforced plastic, it's a term typically used in North

America. GRP is a term that means the same thing. But it's generally
used over in Europe and Asia and stands for glass-reinforced plastic.
ADVANTAGES OF FRP PIPES
1. Light in weight.
2. High in strength.
3. Convenient in transportation
4. Convenient in installation
5. Good Corrosion Resistance
6. Good aging & heat resistance
7. Good anti freezing performance
8. Low maintenance cost
9. High conveying capacity
10.Good abrasion resistance
PIPE JOINING SYSTEMS
1. Restrained joints
• Restrained joints are rigid bonded joints with mechanical restraint.
• Restrained joints may be used in both aboveground and underground
systems.
PIPE JOINING SYSTEMS
PIPE JOINING SYSTEMS

2. Non-restrained joints
• Where gasketed joints are installed.
• Can be used only in underground systems where
soil stiffness & thrust blocks resolve the axial forces
generated by internal pressure and thermal loads.
• Cannot be used for directly buried pipe under road
crossings.
• Unrestrained gasketed joints may be bell-and-
spigot type utilizing double O-rings or double bell
couplings with specialized gaskets.
PIPE JOINING SYSTEMS
PROJECT PURPOSE
• The purpose of this contract is to replace the damaged concrete pipes with FRP
pipes in Canal 1,2 & 3 Flowmeter Chambers, SWC-Jubail.

• Replacement will be done within the chamber of Flowmeter which are located
along the bank of supply and Return canals.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
• Seawater canals-------------Supply Sea Water---------13 Sabic Affiliates

BRIEF SOW CONT.
S/N PROJECT JOB SEQUENCE
PHASE
• Isolation of the flow meter chamber.
• Removal of roof shed.
• Removal of Walkway.
• Removal of exisiting transducers from housing and 3rd party calibration to check for reusability.
• Installing barriers on each side of the lateral chamber for isolating it.
• Dewatering the inside lateral chamber for making it suitable for installation works.
• Cutting of the concrete pipe.
• Demolition of existing concrete pad.
• Erection of reinforced concrete pedestals.
• Lowering of middle FRP spool piece on the concrete support using hoist cranes.
• Installation of end spools using FRP pipes with puddle flanges and drilling holes into the concrete
4 Construction walls for inserting the threaded rods.
• Installation of bell couplings at the joining ends of both end spools.
• Check Alignment of these FRP spool pieces.
• Pouring of Grouting material in the annular spacing between FRP spool and existing Concrete
pipe.
• Re-Installation of transducers after certifying their functionality over the FRP nozzles.
• Laying of coaxial signal cabling from the junction box till these transducers.
• Terminating these signal cables at the junction boxes.
• Reinstatement works
