WHAT IS EMPOWERMENT?

Empowerment is the assignment of decision-making responsibility to the individual.


It requires sharing information and organizational knowledge that enables the empowered
employees to understand and contribute to organizational performance, rewarding them based on
the organization's performance, and giving them the authority to make decisions that influence
organizational outcomes.
Empowerment can stretch decision responsibility beyond a specific decision area to include
decision responsibility for the entire job and for knowing how the performance of that job fits within
the organizational purpose and mission.
