DISSOLVE:
To form a solution by mixing it with a liquid
PARTS OF A SOLUTION
Solvent: “what is doing the dissolving” – usually a liquid
Solute: “what is being dissolved” – usually the solid
“WATER IS THE
UNIVERSAL SOLVENT”
One of the most valuable
properties of water is ability
to dissolve many different
substances.
SOLUTE VS. SOLVENT
YOU ADD THE SOLUTE (SOLID) INTO THE
SOLVENT
When making iced tea, you add the sugar into the
water and then mix it. The sugar is the solute and
the water is the solvent.
Usually more solvent than solute.
SOLUTION:
Is the process by which a gas, liquid, or solid is
homogenously spread within a gas, liquid, or solid
without chemical change.
Formation of a solution is considered a physical change.
SOLUBLE vs. INSOLUBLE
SOLUBLE: will dissolve in a liquid
Depend on temperature
As temperature increases, most solid and liquid solutes
