Optimization and Tools
To maintains / improve the performance of the network . The Optimization is basically the only way to keep track of the network by using the
following tools:

 Statistics ( Business object,…).

Analyse data

 Know of the configuration of the parameters ( X-manager : CNA / RNO

/BSM).
 Configuration and parameters check (X-manager tool RNO/CAN/BSM/…
 Collecting and analyzing drive test data ( TEMS Investigation / TEMS automatic / TEMS Pocket).

WHAT IS TEMS investigation??

TEMS stands for TEst Mobile System.

The leading air-interface test tool for GSM , CDMA, and
UMTS networks.

Why TEMS investigation is used ??

 Exact reading of KPIs in the specific areas.

 Give perfect statistics of all KPIs in the specific area.

 Help in Network optimization and RF tuning through layer

messages.

How can we use TEMS investigation:

 TEMS Installation and configuration

 TEMS use

LOGFILE Recording

 Click Start Recording on the Record toolbar.

• Name the logfile in its standard format MMDD_nn.log, where:
MM - current month
DD current day of the month,
nn is an incrementing counter starting at 01.
 To pause the recording without closing the logfile, click Pause Recording

 Click the same button once more to resume the recording

 Click Stop Recording to end the recording and close the logfile. Once you have closed it, you cannot log any
more data to the same file.
Alternatively, you can control the recording with the corresponding commands in the Logfile menu

 Click Swap Logfiles.

To record subsequent files with file name corresponding to the original one and the counter nn will be further
incremented.
 Filemarks are text strings which can be inserted manually in a logfile in order to tag interesting segments in the
file. They are treated as events and appear as such in presentation windows. Just type the name of the happened
event
LOGFILE Recording

Open/Close Logfile: Open a logfile/Close the logfile that is currently open. Only one logfile can be open at a
time.

Rewind Logfile: Rewind the logfile to the beginning.

Play/Stop Logfile: Replay the logfile/Stop logfile replay. The speed of the replay is variable and is set from the
Logfile menu; see section 7.3.1 below. When the stop button is clicked to halt fast-forwarding, all presentation
windows are updated

Step Logfile: Advance one step in the logfile, i.e. read one more message from the phone. Note that a
presentation window is not always updated when advancing a single step or just a few steps.

Fast-forward Logfile: Play the logfile at high speed. No updating of presentation windows takes place until
the replay is stopped

Find in Logfile: Search forward in the logfile for a time instant, a type of event, or a type of message.

Information:
 The Header tab window shows data on the logfile currently in use.

 If the user who recorded the logfile made use of the “Add User Info” option.

Map: a set of geographical features which are treated as a unit. A map usually consists of several
map LAYERS and is presented in a special window which is called the Map Window
Supported map formats: MapInfo, bitmap, and TIF (uncompressed only).

Layer: a set of data from a particular category which is displayed in the map window. There are
two types of layer:
map layers, which make up the map itself( roads, areas seas, … )
presentation layers, which contain information relating to the cellular network (sites, camgeo.. ).

Themes: a component of a presentation layer, displaying, for example, an information element or

a type of event.

It is possible to load TAB files in the Map window directly, without constructing a
! GeoSet, but then any changes made using the Layer Control will be lost.

Create Cell File
General

Cell file !
How to get it ??

Cell file: it is a cell file with special extension (.cel), helps to display on the TEMS map the neighbour relations, and to get if wrong nighbour
definition exists in addition of the element displayed there.
Create Cell File

The cell file is opened in excel sheet, it contains information that we got from EXERT macro (appeared as icon) , which
requiers as input CDD excel sheet (BSC region), plus the 4 columns that are hilighted in orange coulour . The data in theses
columns could be gotten from Site data base under MAPINFO/MCOM format , to update the data of all BSCs. Just save the
change and the cell file will be ready to load it.
