active lifestyle. However, injuries due to sports
and recreational activities are a significant
public health problem.

Common Injuries in Recreational Activities

Bruises
is a mark on the skin caused by blood
trapped under the surface. Bruises are
often painful and swollen.

Burns
is a damage to the body’s tissues
caused by heat, chemicals, electricity,
sunlight or radiations.
Three Types of Burns:

1. First –degree burns – damage only


the outer layer of the skin.
2. Second-degree burns - damage the
skin’s outer layer and the layer
underneath.
3. Third-degree burns – damage or
destroy the deepest layer of the skin.

3.Dislocation - are joint injuries


that force the ends of the bones out of
position.
4.Fractures – a fracture is a break,
usually in a bone. If the broken bone
punctures the skin, it is called an open or
compound fracture.

Sprain – is a stretched or torn
ligament.
Strain – is a stretched or torn
muscle or tendon.
