and Recreation
Activities
Recreational water activities can have
substantial benefits to our health and well-
being. Swimming pools, beaches, lakes, and
rivers are good venues for physical activity,
exercise, rest, relaxation, pleasure, and fun.
FORMS OF AQUATIC LEISURE
ACTIVITY
 IN THE WATER
1. Swimming – provides relaxation and enjoyment. It can
help cure muscle injuries and relax tensed muscles.
2. Snorkeling – is an fun underwater sight- seeing activity.
It requires the use of a mask to see clearly underwater,
and a snorkel to breath on the surface.
1. Water aerobics – is the performance of an aerobics
exercise in shallow water, particularly in swimming
pool.

of different techniques – hand catching, spearing,
netting, trapping, and hook fishing.
2. Surfing – is a recreational activity that requires
balance, body coordination, and control.

3. White Water Rafting – is done with the use of an
inflatable raft to navigate a river.
4. Boating/motor boating – is a leisure and recreational
activity that can be visit islands and coral reefs, go
fishing, practice photography, and other water based

1. Free diving – depends on the diver’s capacity to hold his/her
breath until resurfacing without the use of any breathing
apparatus.
2. Scuba diving – is an activity that enables an individual
to access the marine environment.

cameras and swimming apparatus.

COMMON WATER ACTIVITIES

 Skydiving – man, from the beginning of the age of reasoning, justifies his
desire for wings. Flying is not only a passion, it has become a regular
sport too.
 Boat racing - is the use of powerboats to participate in races
 Body boarding is similar to surfing, but the board is smaller and the
person lies down on the board.
 Cable skiing is similar to wake boarding, but cables are used for artificial
manoeuvring
 Parasailing is towing a person behind vehicles, usually a boat while
attached to a parachute.
 River rafting – it is the most adrenaline pumping activity, specially in the
mountainous terrains.
 Skim boarding is a board sport where a board is used to ride onto an
incoming wave.
 Surfing downhill on the ocean waves or artificial waves in a wave pool.
 Paragliding – may seem to be a close cousin of skydiving, yet they are
miles apart in details.
 Wildlife surveys – considering the recent endangerment of many wildlife
species, one can enhance a regular holidays trip to forest as taking a step
towards the protection of these animals.
 Coastal trekking – swaying from the traditional routes of road trips or
hiking, coastal trekking is one of the recently developed recreations that
are slowly gaining popularity among trekkers.

Water aerobics is a great way to tone your muscles, burn
calories, and build aerobic capacity.

AEROBICS
Water support the body, putting less stress on your
joints and muscles.
 This support is great if you’re older, have suffered an
injury or are recovering from illness.
 Water pressure helps the heart move blood around
the body, putting less strain on it.
 The impact of gravity is less in the water allowing a
greater range of motion.
 Working out in water can also prevent overheating,
helping you exercise for longer.
