 Misamis Occidental is located near

the narrow strip of land linking


Northwestern Mindanao, to the
Northcentral part of the island.
Shaped like a collapsible fan it is
bounded on the northeast by the
Mindanao Sea, east by the Iligan Bay,
southeast by the Panguil Bay, and the
west by the Zamboanga del Norte
and Sur. The fact that three of its
boundaries are bodies of water gives
away water life as one of its natural
resources and fishing as one of its
main industries.
 The name Misamis is believed
to have been derived from the
Subanen word “Kuyamis”
which a variety of coconut, the
staple food of the early settlers.

 Its capital is Oroquieta City -


Province Economy
The province economy Tangub City is a fishing port on Panguil Bay famous
depends: for seafood. Coconut is the chief crop. This is
 fishing processed into oil, desiccated coconut, and coir,
 coconuts most of which are shipped to Cebu. Coconut
 rice. processing is the main industry in Oroquieta City.

Being a coco-based province, major manufacturing


firms in Misamis Occidental are engaged in Cocunut Other crops grown are:
products: corn
crude coconut oil abaca
cooking oil coffee
lard cacao
margarine rubber.
laundry soap
desiccated coconut.
 Wood is the major forest product. Predominant species are
the Lauan group, Apitong, Yakal, and Philippine Mahogany.
There is also an abundant supply of bamboo, rattan and
various vines.
 The province has a considerable deposit of Clay.
 There are also an abundant sources of sand and gravel.

Occidental
Pasungko S'G festival
• every first week of November as it (Oroquieta City)
celebrates the Pasungko Festival.
‘Pasungko’ – a Subanen word which
means “thanksgiving after a fruitful
harvest”, provides a glimpse into the
colorful culture of the Subanen people.
Although the center of festivities rests in
the provincial capital, Oroquieta City, it is
celebrated province-wide with festivities
that includes street dance and various
events such as trade fairs,
entertainment-related contests.
Subayen Keg Subanon Festival (Ozamiz City)

A week-long festivity marking the feast of Nuestra Señora del Triunfo dela Cruz (Our
Lady of Triumph). The main feature is the Subayan Keg Subanon Festival Street dancing
which highlights the lifestyles of the Subanons as depicted in songs, dances, and other
forms of simulated social expression, using creative costumes and props; participants
parade and mime along the streets, that gives way to the genuine, authentic Subanon
culture and pageantry enacted for both show and benediction.
Christmas Symbols Festival (Tangub City)

• It is an annual festival full of illuminated replicas of iconic landmarks from around the
world. It is month-long Christmas Symbols Festival every December.
• Tangub City has even been dubbed the “Christmas symbols capital of Mindanao.”
Misamis Occidental Aquamarine Park
A tropical resort and a prominent habitat for various marine mammals in Mindanao,
Philippines. Located in the boundaries of municipalities of Tudela, Misamis Occidental
and Sinacaban, Misamis Occidental. Currently, it features a wildlife park that houses a
wide array of animals, most are native to the Philippines.
Baliangao Protected Landscape and Seascape
A wetland conservation area along the coast of Danao Bay in northern Misamis
Occidental, Philippines. Its coast is fringed by coral reefs which serves as a barrier
and protection for the mangrove forest against strong waves. Its seascape is
dominated by seagrasses and seaweeds.
Caluya Shrine
A replica of Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer. The giant statue overlooks both
Murcielagos and Caluya bays so after climbing the 190+ steps to the top, you are rewarded
with breathtaking views. It is located at Sapang Dalaga, Misamis Occidental.
Piduan Curtain Falls
A curtain-like waterfalls is hidden within the foot of Mount Malindang. It is
locatedSitio Piduan in Barangay Napangan, Don Victoriano Chiongbian.
Hoyohoy Highland Stone Chapel Hotel and Adventure Park
It is owned and operated by Highland Stone Chapel Corp. You can experience the two
longest ziplines in the country. Located Tangub City, Misamis Occidental at the foot of Mt.
Malindang Mountain Ranges which is around 3,000 feet above sea-level over looking Lanao
del Norte, Tangub City, and Ozamiz City and most importantly the majestic view of sunrise
and Panguil Bay.
Fuerte dela Concepcion y del Triunfo (Ozamiz City)
Cotta Fort Santiago – An Old Spanish Port built in 1707 to protect this region from marauding
pirates, it is only a few meters from the wharf. A special chapel was built inside the walls of
the fort and an image of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception, was enshrined in the
chapel and outside the fort on the wall facing the bay, was a carved image of the Virgin Mary
(Nuestra Señora de la Inmaculada Concepción y del Triunfo de la Cruz de Migpangi)
Immaculate Conception Pipe Organ
The Ozamiz City’s Immaculate Conception
Cathedral is residence to the second biggest
pipe organ in the nation, nearby the one in
Manila Cathedral.
Sapang Dalaga Falls ( Baga Falls)
Is proudly standing at the height of 60 feet with its not so wide brink, and the water freely
falls into its catching basin. It is located in Sitio Celso Velez, Barangay Poblacion, Sapang
Dalaga, Misamis Occidental. Additionally, it is very accessible from the town proper. It
holds an estimated distance of more than 1 kilometer from Sapang Dalaga town proper.
Perhaps the accessibility of this waterfall can be compared to Mimbalot Falls in Iligan City,
Lanao, Del Norte.
