Analytical Exposition

Definition

 Analytical Exposition is a text that elaborates the writer’s opinion on phenomena/issues


without persuading the readers to do something.The purpose of this text is to persuade the
readers that the phenomena/issues are important /worth it to be discussed to by
providing the arguments/opinions to support the topic
 Also Analytical Exposition is not something to change the mindset of the readers because
the text was only an opinion that the writers made.meaning the text aiming for the readers
to believe what any phenomena/issues that the writers try to explain
Generic Structure of Analytical Exposition

 1.Thesis
In this part thesis,the writers must share the information about the main topic that he/she will going to
write about. Thesis can also be found on the first paragraph. In this part,readers can also see why the
writers giving his/her opinion about some event that occurs becoming his/her topic
2.Arguments
On the next paragraph, you’ll find a part called Arguments. Writers will write his/her opinion to
support the main topic that has been submitted previously
 3.Reiteration/Conclusion
In this section always located at the end of the text and as a closing paraghraph of the text. Reiteration
provides reaffirmation of the author’s position and opinion on the main topic
Language Features

 1.Write Analytical Exposition must use simple present tense


 2.Use word that express the author’s thought and feeling
for example:experience, feel, know, realize, think,etc
 3.Using internal conjunction,is a conjunction that connect arguments between two clauses.Internal
conjunction can be divided into four categories: (1) Addition for example: besides, in addition, further.
(2) Comparisons for example: but, vice versa, meanwhile. (3) Time for example: second, then, next. (4)
Cause-effect for example: consequence, as a result, so, the result.
 4.Using causal conjunctions (reason-why) for example: as a result, because, by, consequently, despite,
due to, for that reason, etc.
The difference between Analytical and
Hortatory Exposition

 So the difference between Analytical and Hortary Exposition are located on the last
paragraph or as we know as ‘’Recommendation’’ and ‘’Reiteration’’. Now both are based
on difference point on each for the exposition text

For ‘’Recommendation’’ is a closing paragraph to point out about deepen under statement
about the genre writers try to write.

As for ‘’Reiteration’’ is a closing about the writers that conclude the text only, instead of
giving his/her understand statement on the genre.
EXAMPLE 1: ANALYTICAL
 Why Exercise is Important
 The majority of us claim that we do not have time for exercise. We feel too busy
to do that. However, many expert said that exercise has great role in making our
body healthy.
 Being physically active offers many advantages. In physical reword, exercise can
reduce weight then our body will become fitter. Exercise is also believed to reduce
stress levels, improve sleep patterns, and reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes
and some forms of cancer. Beside physical advantage, exercise also brings good
effects mentally. Due to the fitter body, exercise can make us feel refreshed and
happy then we can increase our life quality and expectancy.
 How can we do exercise while we are busy? Such question is commonly found
among us. Actually exercise can be done in simple ways. We can go walking while
shopping. In the office we can take stair rather than lift to run up and down. Or
we can go cycling while enjoy the leisure time.
 Overall, exercise helps us healthier physically and mentally. That is why exercise
is very important to us.
