The blueprint of life

DNA
T. Alejandra Espinosa
Why is DNA important?
REMEMBER THAT WE ARE MADE
OF CELLS?
WELL EACH CELL HAS A JOB TO
DO, FOR EXAMPLE NERVE CELLS
(BRAIN) CARRY INFORMATION
FROM ONE PART OF THE BODY TO
ANOTHER. BUT HOW DOES EACH
CELL KNOW WHAT ITS JOB IS?
JUST AS THE BOSS OF A COMPANY
TELLS THE WORKERS WHAT TO

DNA
DO, CELLS ARE TOLD WHAT TO DO
BY A SPECIAL MOLECULE INSIDE
THEM CALLED
DEOXYRIBONUCLEIC ACID OR...
Where is DNA?
It
depends
Eukaryot of the Prokaryo
ic type of tic
Its in the cell: It is
nucleus. floating
in the
cytoplas
HOW IS DNA CONFORMED?
DNA uses combinations of organic compounds called nucleotides to tell cells
what to do. There are four types of nucleotides:

ADENI THYMIN CYTOSI GUANIN

NE (A) E (T) NE (C) E
(G)
These nucletides can combine only in certain ways:
Adenine + Thymine
Cytosine + Guanine
STRUCTURE
DNA

DNA consists of two long strands of these nucleotides in a structure called double helix, which looks
like a spiral ladder. Specific sequences of the ladder are called GENES.
GENES
Genes determinate genetic composition of an organism, such as the color of its
hair and eyes, the shape of its leaf or the size of its fin. We have around 30,000
genes!!! =O

DNA is capable of replicating itself, so when cells reproduce, all its instructions
are passed onto the new cells. We as humans get half of our genetic material
from each of our parents.
