TOPICS
• Database concept
• DBMS
• Evolution of DB
Database concept
 A database is an organized collection of
data, generally stored and accessed
electronically from a computer system. ...
The database management system
(DBMS) is the software that interacts
with end users, applications, and the
database itself to capture and analyze the
data.
 a structured set of data held in a
computer, especially one that is
accessible in various ways.
 A database is an organized collection of
structured information, or data, typically
stored electronically in a computer
system. A database is usually controlled
by a database management system
(DBMS)
Database concept
 A database can be thought of as a kind of
electronic filing cabinet; it contains digitized
information (“data”), which is kept in persistent
storage of some kind, typically on magnetic
disks. Users can insert new information into
the database, and delete, change, or retrieve
existing information in the database, by
issuing requests or commands to the software
that manages the database—which is to say,
the database management system
Name of DB
Oracle 12c. It's no surprise that Oracle is consistently at the top of lists of
popular databases. ...

MySQL. MySQL is one of the most popular databases for web-based

applications. ...

Microsoft SQL Server. ...

PostgreSQL. ...

MongoDB. ...

MariaDB. ...

DB2. ...

SAP HANA.
Name of DBMS
Some common examples of popular, free
business database software include
• MySQL,
• Microsoft SQL Server,
• Microsoft Access,
• Oracle,
• IBM DB2, and FoxPro.
•For example, MySQL, a free business
database software, is a high-performance
database software that helps enterprise users
build scalable database applications
Evolution of DB
 Databases are a part of everybody’s
daily routine, even people who do not
own a computer or mobile phone
interact with them regularly. When we
take out money from an ATM, check our
bank balance, shop online, view social
media or perform almost any digital
interaction, we are accessing a
database.
 Databases are essentially software applications.
A database management system (DBMS) is the
name of the software that provides data to other
applications, allowing all the digital information
systems that we interact with today. Often, a
DBMS is referred to as a database. There are
many vendors and software solutions with
different licenses and uses. Data is shared with
a variety of standards, but primarily they all
serve the same purpose, which is to provide
applications with data.
