This document outlines a research project on improving first pass yield for a thermistor vision assembly process. The project aims to reduce rejections from 10.5% to less than 5% through identifying issues with the current production process and operator training. The study will involve interviewing engineers and operators to map the existing assembly flow and evaluate training mechanisms. Data collection will also identify root causes of defects using quality control tools and why-why analysis. The results are expected to help redesign fixtures or change assembly methods to better support parts and reduce misalignments during bending.

IMPROVEMENT OF THERMISTOR VISION Name: Triana Binti Mohd Ali Lawrence ID: 57360120017 CHAPTER 1: RESEARCH BACKGROUND The current manufacturing scenario is focused on improving the process by reducing rejections and improving first pass yield (FPY) This project to focus on internal quality improvement to reduce rejection in a Thermistor Vision in Battery Pack Assembly Line, which was having around 10.5% scrap. A substantial improvement of around 60% we estimated after the completion of work. PROBLEM STATEMENT There are some problems in production line assembly which are low pass yield, too many rework and low output per day. This problem has negatively impacted the number of output per day because the false reject and low first pass yield . A possible cause of this problem is operators not alert and follow the standard of operation that have been given, machine not in good condition and the defect from incoming material . Perhaps a study which investigates the root cause of the problem that occur in this company can be solve by “seven basic quality control (QC) tools” and also why-Why analysis RESEARCH OBJECTIVE Aligning to the research statement, following objectives being developed: To identify the existing production process of Thermistor Vision in battery pack assembly To study the effectiveness of present training mechanism provided for operator RESEARCH QUESTION The research questions were constructed according to the objectives of the research. The creation to achieve the goal will be instructed by endeavoring to answer the following research: What is the existing production process of battery pack assembly ? What is the effectiveness of present training mechanism provided for operator ? SCOPE OF STUDY Vanue: Microtronic Technology Sdn Bhd at Tampoi, Johor. Product: Battery Pack for Vacuum
The study will focus on Thermistor Vision in Battery
Pack Assembly Line CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW
IV DV CHAPTER3: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY Primary data – Qualitative Interview
To achieve the objectives of study the existing
production process flow, the data that will collected by interview the Engineer in the Microtronics Technology Sdn. Bhd. Besides, the operator also will be interview because they are directly hands on to the product. CHAPTER 4: RESULT AND DISCUSSION Why-Why analysis for potential Cause . Why? – The operator causes misalignment.
Why? – As the parts are held without support.
Why? – They assume the fixture realigns the internal
components. To check if there were any misalignments, technician are always monitoring the jig that operator used for bending the thermistor without causing the reduction in quality. The operator update their training record every month and strictly will be audit by quality. Hence, if we concluded that the method of assembly needs to change or the design of fixture needs to be further developed. PROCESS FLOW CONCLUSION It is concluded that Thermistor Vision assembly rejections are reduced from 10.5% to 4.5% after improvement. Management involvement and Team effort are essential to reduce the FPY. All the objective is achived.
