INTRODUCION…..

 This presentation is about the design ,

specialty and pret line of world famous
designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
DESIGNER SABYASACHI MUKHERJEE

Sabyasachi Mukherjee is a
Fashion Designer from
Kolkata, India. He has
his own Fashion line of
creations, and has a
global footprint. His
unique creations that
are somewhat non-
traditional as well as
cross-cultural have
earned him his own
niche in the crowded
Fashion Design world.
 Born and brought up in Calcutta,
West Bengal, India, Sabyasachi
completed his high school from
St.Xaviers, Calcutta and graduated
from the National Institute for
Fashion Technology, Kolkata with
triple awards in 1999. He started
his career with costume designing
for Bombay movies in the
Bollywood Film industry, which he
still does today. His couture level
is Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
Following graduation, after three months he launched his label, and his
designs currently retail in various major stores.
In 2001, Sabyasachi won the Femina British Council most
outstanding young Designer of India award, which took him to
London for an internship with Georgina Von Etzdorf, a designer
based in Salisbury. He made his international label by winning the
grand winner award at Mercedes New Asia fashion week in
Singapore in 2003.
In 2004, he took part in the Kuala Lampur fashion week, and
Lakme India Fashion Week (LIFW).
He was voted by Asia Inc, a Singapore based business magazine, as
one of the ten most influential Indians in Asia.
Speciality of Sabyasach
mukherjee’s design
Couture with a vintage look
Sabyasachi's Indian line
celebrates the Indian
woman. "An international
styling with an Indian soul"
would be an apt description
in his own words. "I attempt
to create outfits which
transcend time - stuff which
is classic,'' he says while
supervising the display of his
creations at Origins.
Colors………
 Colors of
Sabyasachi’s
garment are very
versatile.
 Mainly shades of
red, ochre, different
shades of brown ,
fuchsia, lapis lazuli,
sienna ,indigo ’,rusts
, beige ,turquoise
,orange ,green ,
black etc.
Fabrics of sabyasachi’s
design
Textile play is Sabyasachi's speciality. He works
with a number of fabrics like brocade,
georgette, matka,tasser, juxtaposing and
texturing them to achieve a `layered' or `patch
work' effect. Add to that a mixture of
embellishments like embroidery (gota , ari,
badla, kantha,kalamkari etc) and intricate
detailing and the end product is a garment,
which stands out. Antique textiles are
reworked i.e. over-textured. For instance,
brocade is over-textured to look like tweed.
Awards……..
 Best Design Collection (NIFT Kolkata)
 Best Design Collection (NIFT All India)
 Ritu Kumar Award for Excellence in Design

award at Mercedes New Asia fashion week in Singapore.

to the Milan Fashion Week, Italy (in 2004) to

Pret collection

 Sabyasachi
mukherjee’s design
collection resembles
his pret collection,as
well.Actually,his

,which were shown in

converted in pret one.

Fashion Week . India
Bohemian chic was reinterpreted for
Indian silhouettes with patch skirts,
churidars, tunics, blouses, jackets and
sarees. The colours were rich, contrasting
yet completely harmonious in their appeal-
a range of fuchsias, oranges, peacock
greens, reds, henna, and turquoise.
Brocades, duppioni, tanchois, antique
saree-borders, and bandhanis were
creatively assembled.
2003-Theme:Kora-Lakme Fashion
Week , India
 The collection was inspired, in part,
by the streets of Victorian London
and Calcutta, defined by
Sabyasachi`s ethos of cross cultural
fashion and his desire to portray a
sense of innocence. The silhouettes
were varied and multi-faceted. Often
layered or oversized. Off the shoulder
cotton knits over more skimpy body
hugging knits; long knit cardigans
over tiered skirts; ruched and
smocked detached sleeves worn with
sleeveless vests or camisoles.
 Dhoti-like pants caught at the
ankle with buckled straps on the
guys, or under short, tailored
western jackets by the girls; saris
were so stylized that they were
barely recognizable. Guys wore
long kurtas over pajama pants
cropped to the lower calf.
Otherwise mens` trousers were
straight, wide and ankle lengths.
Skirts flowed long, often paneled.
The collection was accessorized
with boxing gloves, oversized
swagbags, crocheted shoulder
bags, tiffin carriers gold plimsoles,
extra long scarves.

style.

 Hem-hand printing, block

printing and modern
versions of the saree .
Large sleeves and
oversized shirts gave
these designs a floating
feel. Muddy
colors.discharge prints
were dominated.
2006- Theme :
Snail, LIFW

 A gentle calm and quietness permeated through Sabyasachi`s new

resort collection, as fashion worldwide settled down into a
cleaner, fresher mood. Painstakingly tedious processes of subtle
texturing, laborious processes of mud and discharge printing,
obsolete techniques of embroidery, classic couture construction
processed and controlled volume in silhouettes were seen in this
collection.

blending of motifs -- each
piece is for the eyes to
behold. The fabrics are
sourced from different
places and are then worked
upon with the result the
fabric sports an entirely
different look.
Sabyasachi’s patch work

Sabyasachi is able
to achieve a `patch-

look like patchwork.
A subtle `fusion' and
neat work enhances
the garment.
