INTRODUCTION

• Around 90% of automobiles today run-on petroleum-based products which is driven by

IC engines
• The major downsides of IC engines are the emission of GHGs and noise pollution
• In the fight against climate change and to reduce over exploitation of fossil fuels, the
large-scale implementation of IC engines in the transportation industry will have to be
reduced
• An electric vehicle is one that operates on an electric motor, instead of an internal
combustion engine. There is no pollution from electric vehicles and more efficiency
especially when driving through high traffic in urban cities.
• Electric vehicles tend to have a shorter range before needing to be recharged

2
• A hybrid vehicle where both the power sources are put in use can solve these problems
and combine the advantages of both IC engine and electric motor.
• This hybrid combination makes the vehicle dynamic in nature and provides its owner
better efficiency and lesser environmental impact over conventional automobiles.
• Shifting to a hybrid or electric vehicle helps in reducing the CO2 equivalent emissions
and consumption of petroleum
• Thus, the advantages of HEV make it superior than any other vehicle in today’s
automobile industry.
