ELECTROMAGNETIC

SUSPENSION SYSTEEM
SUSPENSION SYSTEM

 A basic suspension system consists

of springs & shock absorbers.

In a vehicle, shock absorbers reduce

the effect of travelling over rough
ground , leading to improved
Ride quality and vehicle handling.

In machines these are used to absorb the vibrations that

occur due to the moving parts.

BASIC IDEA

 Electromagnetic suspension (EMS).

 Magnetic levitation of an object achieved.

Altering strength of a magnetic field using electromagnets.

 To design system practically.

 Reduces friction and wear.

 More comfort and control.

 Low maintenance.

 No fluids.
DESIGN OF SUSPENSION SYSTEM
N

• As the magnets with similar polarity

repel this property is used to maintain
clearance between two
electromagnets.
s
• One bar is fixed below and the other is
allowed to levitate with the help of a S
frame.

• This clearance is used to provide

damping and absorb vibrations.

N
PROPERTIES OF MATERIAL (M.S)

• Eddy current losses are low as compared to other metals.

• Coercivity and Remanence are very high.

• Exhibits high Ductility.

• Comparatively less harder than other metals.

• Heat resistive.
MAGNETIC POWER

• F=C AnI/l

C = proportionality constant (0.0094 psi)

A = Cross sectional area of the (M.S)rod

n = number of windings

I = Current passing through the wire

CONCLUSION
•Avoids annoying sounds.

• Increased comfort.

•Clearance can be managed by varying the voltage and number of

windings.

• These can replace shock absorbers in both vehicles and

machines.

• They can use both D.C and A.C supplies.

• In vehicles they can use the electricity generated and stored in

the
battery

•Both natural and forced vibrations can be damped by this type of

shock absorbers
