Basic Equation of Each Particle

Cw represents the free energy of w

ater in the paste matrix and is a fu
nction of relative humidity, deduc
ed from experiment by Ono.

Firstly, need to find S(r)

6
3 Modes

r0 as a lower bound or initial cement particle

7
Interparticle contact effect
The interparticle contact effect on the rate of hydration of each particle is mod
eled as the expanding sphere in the unit cubic cell which is determined by the i
nitial water-to-cement ratio. The size of unit cubic cell is defined by eq. below,

The schematic interparticle contact model and the relationship between

normalized radius of expanding cement particle (Rt/l) and its free surface
is illustrated in following figure.

In this part, I assume the range of the cement particles radius from 1 to
100 with an increment of 0.001 (r), the normalized it with the size of unit
cubic cell. Rt/l

Each Rt need to be
normalized by L

8
Example of interparticle contact effect

I changed it from 12 to 6

Dormant Period

Second, need to find kd

• The rate determining coefficient kd, is phenomenologically determined as f
ollows:
or
Where,
α = averaged degree of hydration of cement
ro = the radius of initial cement particles
rt = the radius of anhydrous cement particles

C = 5.107 (/h.mm2) or

Temperature Rise (∆T) at OPC200

Figure 1. Ro=0.2 micron for OPC200 Figure 2. Ro=0.4 micron for OPC200 Figure 3. Ro=0.5 micron for OPC200

Note for OPC200:

1. As we can see that the higher the initial radius, the graph will tend to decrease
2. Because the ratio of water to cement is higher (0.785) so for initial radius at 0.2 will
tend to get an error value, also the same for degree of hydration (will get the value
more than 1 , in other words will also get an error data)
