COMPREHENSIVE TRANSPORTATION STUDY OF MMR
Multi-Modal Corridor: - MMC is a 126 km long Virar-Alibuag Multi Modal Corridor will connect NH-8, Bhiwandi bypass, NH-3, NH-4 and NH-
4B, Mumbai-Pune Expressway, NH-17, etc. The Multi Modal Corridor will be a crucial step towards development, strengthening and creating job
opportunities in seven growth centers in MMR such as Virar, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Dombivali, Panvel, Taloja and Panvel.

PRESENT STATUS
 In this regard, MMRDA conducted a joint site visit with DMRC, CIDCO and KDMC officials for finalization of
metro alignment for the said corridor on 22nd August 2017 (10.00AM –3.00PM) 

 In the site visit it was observed that existing population in the influence area of the said corridor is less so the
ridership will also be less.

 As per the KDMC Officials, the metro should cover the road adjacent to Dombivli MIDC because many people
working in MIDC, come from Panvel and other surrounding areas to Panvel.

 The 1st option of Metro alignment is proposed over the NH4 (from Shil-phata to Taloja). It was discussed that
getting clearances to execute a metro over a national highway will be difficult.

 The 2nd option of Metro alignment is proposed over the MMC (100 m. wide proposed corridor). (MMC also
has metro alignment). According to the CIDCO officials, the MMC metro system will be different from this
system and it would be difficult to run this only 2 to 3 km route of K-T metro from that MMC metro corridor.

 The 3rd option of Metro alignment is proposed over the Malang Road, which does not show any development
and the proposed growth centre and MIDC area are also far away from this route. So it was discussed that
this option will not be viable.

 In this context, it was decided to get detailed Proposed land use plans from CIDCO (NAINA Pocket), KDMC
(except 27 villages) and AKBSNA and revise the options which can satisfy to all the conditions.
