TRAINING AND
DEVELOPMENT
MEANING
• Training : It is an organized activity aimed at
providing instructions to improve the recipients
performance or to help him attain a required level of
skill.
• It is a process to increase skill and knowledge.
• DEVELOPMENT : It means to improve the
overall effectiveness of the employee at their current
posts and to prepare them for handling more
responsibilities in the future.
• It involves growth of an individual in all aspects like
personality, maturity etc.
Education:
• Education is the process of facilitating learning, or
the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values,
beliefs, and habits.
• Educational methods include teaching, training,
storytelling, discussion and directed research
Importance of Training & Development
• Help in addressing employee weaknesses: Training assists in
eliminating weaknesses.
• Improvement in workers performance: A properly trained
employee is more informed about various tasks.
• Consistency in duty performance: A well organized training program
gives the workers constant knowledge and experience.

Boredom in the workplace can create feelings of dissatisfaction and negative working habits.
Regular development initiatives can prevent workplace idleness. Having frequent training
program will also establish regular re-evaluation – of employees, skills, and processes. Training
and development will also influence company culture by instilling an emphasis on planning.
Human Resource Development Fund:
• The Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) is a
training fund that has been established for skills
development in the country.
•It is operated through a levy grant system in which
companies pay a training levy into the Fund. The levy
payers (employers) train their citizen employees and are
reimbursed for costs they incurred for training.
Benefits of HRDF:
• Training grants are open to all employers registered and/or
incorporated in Malaysia who have registered with PSMB
(Pembangunan Sumber. Manusia Berhad) and pay the HRD levy
as to defray all or a major portion of the costs incurred in
employee training.
•Financial assistance is given to employers that
conduct training that is in line with their business operations.

• PSMB is a driving force in training and development of human resource
by enhancing the knowledge and skills of workforce via our schemes and
services.
•HRDF schemes are divided into two categories; HRDF Levy and
Government Special Fund
The HRDF Levy is a fund that is deposited by employers on a monthly
basis. They can apply for schemes provided by HRDF to attend any
programmes recognised by HRDF.
