CERAMICS

Jarrenz O. Maravilla
BEED-1
WHAT IS CERAMIC ART?
 Ceramic art is art made from ceramic materials,
including clay. It may take forms including artistic
pottery, including tableware, tiles, figurines and other
sculpture. As one of the plastic arts, ceramic art is one of
the visual arts.
HOW IS CERAMIC ART MADE?
 The broader term ceramic painting includes painted
decoration on lead-glazed earthenware such as
creamware or tin-glazed pottery such as maiolica or
faience. Typically the body is first fired in a kiln to
convert it into a hard porous biscuit.
WHAT ARE THE 3 TYPES OF CERAMIC?
 There are three main types of pottery/ceramic. These
are earthenware, stoneware and porcelain.
EARTHENWARE
 Earthenware, pottery that has not been fired to the
point of vitrification and is thus slightly porous and
coarser than stoneware and porcelain. The body can be
covered completely or decorated with slip (a liquid clay
mixture applied before firing), or it can be glazed. ...
There are two main types of glazed earthenware.
STONEWARE
 Stoneware is a rather broad term for pottery or other
ceramics fired at a relatively high temperature. Like all
ceramic materials, stoneware can break
fairly easily when dropped on a hard surface such as
floor tiles. Stoneware gets its name from its stone-like
qualities.
PORCELAIN
 Porcelain is a ceramic material made by heating
materials, generally including a material like kaolin, in a
kiln to temperatures between 1,200 and 1,400 °C.
Porcelain will allow bright light to pass through it
therefore is more difficult and expensive to produce.
